AMANS is pleased to announce the appointment of Roxanne Pereira as the Municipal Accessibility, Equity, and Anti-Racism Program Coordinator. Supported by the Province of Nova Scotia, including the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism and the Accessibility Directorate, this term position aims to enhance support for municipalities and villages across Nova Scotia. In her new role, Roxanne will oversee the coordination, promotion, and provision of accessibility, equity, anti-racism, and capacity-building support for municipalities and villages throughout the province. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing capacity-building initiatives, advising municipal accessibility, equity, and anti-racism leads on project implementation and community engagement, and assisting municipalities in navigating funding opportunities. Roxanne will also provide administrative support and project coordination for the Municipal Accessibility, Equity, and Anti-Racism Program. Roxanne's personal experiences with systemic inequalities have fueled her lifelong dedication to understanding and addressing systemic racism and inequity, advocating for underserved and underrepresented communities. She holds a master's degree in international development studies from Dalhousie University, with a research focus on the rehabilitation and reintegration of sex workers in India. Roxanne has contributed to various organizations across Nova Scotia and served as an Engagement Intern at the Office of Equity and Anti-Racism. Additionally, she works part-time as a program coordinator for a research study on Preventing and Addressing Family Violence in rural Atlantic Canada. In her leisure time, Roxanne enjoys hiking, gardening, salsa dancing, and playing soccer. Roxanne will begin her journey with AMANS on July 4, 2024. AMANS is governed by the Board of Directors which comprises 4 Executive Officers, 10 Regional Directors, and 1 Representative from the Board of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities AMANS membership includes CAOs, Clerks, Deputies, Directors, and other administrative positions within local government. Membership is open to professionals involved in the administration of local government in Nova Scotia. It is the mission of AMANS to be a professional, non-partisan association dedicated to excellence in municipal administration.

Congratulations to the Province and the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities (#NSFM) on signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement takes effect April 1st and represents a landmark development for Nova Scotia’s municipalities. The signing of the new MOU follows two years of negotiations and a significant investment of time and effort from staff at the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the NSFM, its leadership, and its membership.
