In April 2024, Actua, in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education, engaged 90 educators in a land-based learning opportunity at Fish Creek Provincial Park in Alberta. The training emphasized integrating Indigenous perspectives into STEM, including sessions on AI for language revitalization and curriculum alignment. Actua proudly honours and celebrates the rich histories and invaluable contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people across what is now Canada and we are grateful for the traditions and perspectives shared with us. We have the privilege of working with over 200 Indigenous communities and they truly are the foundation of our National Indigenous Youth in STEM (InSTEM) program. 🤝 Actua is pleased to announce the integration of The Canadian Science Fair Journal (CSFJ) as a new program. Under Actua, the CSFJ will continue to increase opportunities for young Canadians to engage in scientific research and share their discoveries on a national platform. With CSFJ, Actua will not only continue to offer hands-on, experiential learning opportunities but also support the publication and dissemination of youth-led research, fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and excellence among diverse youth from across the country.  actua.ca/news-views/csfj  ‎

Today marks the official conclusion of the 2024 Actua Outreach Workshops! Over the past month, I have gained invaluable insights from engaging with children, educators, and my colleague Natasha Kipsigak. Together, we have reached students across Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde River, Igloolik, and Pangnirtung (NU). I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge in STEM and to represent Actua within each community. The organization's commitment to reconciliation and promoting equality in STEM education is commendable. Looking forward to the upcoming Camps!
