Packers Contemplate Jordan Love Contract Timeline

The Jacksonville Jaguars gave quarterback Trevor Lawrence a huge deal worth over $55 million each year. So, who’s next to get a big payday?

While Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys might agree on a deal around $60 million, making him the highest-paid QB in the NFL, it’s not as clear-cut for Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers really want to keep Love. He’s super talented, and some fans say their luck with quarterbacks isn’t just luck after having three Pro Bowl talents in a row.

Love played amazingly in the second half of last season, leading the Packers to the playoffs and even beating Prescott’s Cowboys in the Wild Card round. He deserves to be paid well too. But unlike Dak, Love hasn’t played as much because he was behind Aaron Rodgers for a while. So, is he really ready?

Green Bay hopes so. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that they want to sign him before training camp starts.

“The tricky thing now is I’ve talked to a lot of scouts and executives (who) believe he’s now a top 10 passer in the entire NFL,” Fowler said. “Just a small sample and that costs a lot of money as we know.”

The Packers don’t want to repeat past mistakes with Rodgers.

Rodgers had some tense moments with Green Bay’s front office towards the end of his time there, even threatening retirement. Eventually, they traded him to the Jets and decided it was time for Love to take over.

“So, they’re going to try to shake something out. The Packers would like to get a long-term deal done with Love before training camp. That’s their goal,” Fowler continued.

Green Bay wants to avoid another Rodgers-like situation.

Every good game Love plays will make his price go up. Signing him now might be their best bet, hoping he’ll accept less than what Lawrence got. It’s still risky either way.
