Former Packers Stalwart Criticizes Team’s Handling of Jordan Morgan

After saying goodbye to their longtime left tackle, David Bakhtiari, the Green Bay Packers quickly found his replacement. Or so it seemed.

The Packers used their first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft on Jordan Morgan, a standout from the Arizona Wildcats. But instead of playing him at tackle, they’ve been using him as a guard. Why?

Concerns about Morgan’s size and arm span followed him into the NFL. Many thought he was better suited for an interior line position. However, Bryan Bulaga, a former Packers star, strongly disagrees. He believes Green Bay “should stop wasting time running him at guard.”

On Monday, Bulaga shared his thoughts on the Wilde and Tausch podcast. Naturally, the topic of Morgan came up.

“I think we have to move on from [playing Morgan at guard] … I think this kid’s a tackle,” Bulaga said.

Morgan earned consecutive 83.0-plus Pro Football Focus grades and 2023 All-Pac-12 First Team Honors. Bulaga feels this proves Morgan’s worth.

“… if you see the way he moves and honestly, he’s got great size — I don’t care about the arm length stuff, that’s junk,” Bulaga added.

Morgan’s quick hands, feet, and high football IQ make up for any physical shortcomings. Despite critics, the rookie remains unfazed.

Regardless of opinions, Morgan must earn his left tackle spot. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently gave a brutally honest review of Morgan’s minicamp performance.

Bulaga believes now is the time for Morgan to learn from his mistakes. “If you give him the reps needed on both sides [left and right tackle], I think he’ll be ready to roll.”
