Steelers Insider Revives Trade Rumor for Top Wideout

Despite all the talk, the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t traded for a veteran wide receiver yet.

It’s frustrating.

We keep hearing the same names linked to the team. Recently, Ray Fittipaldo from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette brought up an old rumor. He was on The Joe Starkey Show on Friday.

Fittipaldo thinks the Steelers could get one of the San Francisco 49ers’ top receivers. Maybe Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel.

“I think [Brandon] Aiyuk or [Deebo] Samuel [get traded to the Steelers],” Fittipaldo said. He mentioned the 49ers’ offseason moves as clues.

“Given what the 49ers have done, drafting Ricky Pearsall in the first round … signing [Jauan] Jennings … I think there’s another shoe to drop out there in San Francisco,” he added.

The 49ers picked a wide receiver in the first round and re-signed Jauan Jennings. But they haven’t met Aiyuk’s contract demands yet. He’s in the last year of his rookie deal.

Samuel has two years left on his contract, making $23.85 million a year. The 49ers have the most expensive receiver room in the NFL for 2024, spending $55 million. Can they keep that up, especially with Brock Purdy needing a big extension by 2025?

It feels like we’re just going in circles, but a trade makes sense for both teams. Until Aiyuk re-signs or gets traded, the idea of him or Samuel playing for the Steelers is still alive.

So, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
