A major league stunner has fans and the media up bright and early on a random Wednesday in December. After an apparent “failed” physical with the San Francisco Giants, highly touted free agent Carlos Correa decided to take his talents to New York and spend the next 12 years of his career with the Mets.

Correa, recently signed a 13-year $350 million deal with the Giants that all seemed well until the failed physical hit the news. Not long after reports of the deal falling apart between the Giants and Correa, the all-star shortstop has reportedly found his new home with the Mets.

The Mets got a bargain, one could say, as Correa is taking $35 million cut and one year less on his deal in New York. Correa spent last season with the Minnesota Twins after a seven-year run with the Houston Astros, which saw the shortstop help bring a World Series to Houston in 2017.

Correa’s lone season with the Twins saw the two-time all-star hit for his second-highest average in his career at .291 while also tying his second-highest OBP total at .366. Expectations will once again be high for the team from Queens. When are they not?
