NYC Schools Early Childhood head is leaving post
CITYWIDE — KARA AHMED, the deputy chancellor in charge of New York City’s early childhood education programs for the past two-and-a-half years, is leaving her post, Chalkbeat reported Tuesday. Ahmed told staffers on a Zoom call that she’s leaving to “assume a position that will help to elevate the quality of early childhood education on a national level,” but didn’t name the position.
Ahmed’s leadership attracted scrutiny from critics who accused Mayor Eric Adams and schools Chancellor David Banks of walking back the expansion of pre-K and 3-K that began under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, Chalkbeat said. (Chalkbeat collaborated with THE CITY in its report.)
