EASTERN PARKWAY — Jews worldwide associated with the Chabad movement will honor the memory of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, whose 30th death anniversary is on Tuesday, July 9 (and began at sundown, Monday). Considered the most influential rabbi in modern history and universally known as “the Rebbe,” Schneerson and Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, who died last month, helped expand the Chabad movement — headquartered in Crown Heights — into a global Jewish organization, with thousands of Shluchim (emissaries) and centers, according to an announcement that Chabad released Monday. Schneerson, recognized across denominations from Orthodox to Reform, is remembered as a visionary leader, revolutionary and compassionate Torah scholar whose teachings emphasized love for all, outreach, education and good deeds to prepare the world for an era of peace.

The Rebbe’s published works include hundreds of volumes of essays, discourses, talks and letters. Shortly after his death on 3 Tammuz 5754 (July 12, 1994), he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
