PROSPECT PARK — THE PURSLANE CAFE opens tomorrow, July 4, and will offer sustainably sourced food and coffee daily and cocktails and beverages on select evenings, the Prospect Park Alliance announced. The catering company that runs Purslane Cafe is a New York-based sustainable hospitality firm, The Oberon Group, with an emphasis on sustainability and protecting the environment. Purslane Cafe is a physical extension of Oberon, New York’s first zero-waste, carbon-neutral catering company, which produces events at the Boathouse and Prospect Park Picnic House. The new café, carrying only sustainable, recyclable and compostable products, will feature a menu of coffee drinks and food like sandwiches, pastries and frittatas, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with outdoor seating. Wine, beer and summer cocktails will also be available for special evenings.

The café is named for an ancient herb; often an ingredient in salads, purslane is nutty and rich in several vitamins and nutrients.
