Elderly Gowanus woman struck & killed by dump truck while crossing street

GOWANUS — AN ELDERLY BROOKLYN WOMAN was struck by a turning dump truck and killed steps from her Bond Street home in Gowanus late Wednesday night, according to NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad. Carolyn Cox, 83, was attempting to cross Bond Street near Butler Street mid-block at roughly 11:33 p.m. when she was struck by the passenger side of a 2018 Kenworth dump truck traveling westbound on Butler Street that was attempting to make a right-hand turn onto Bond. She was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The truck driver stopped the vehicle at Third Avenue and Bergen Street, police said. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
