BATH BEACH TO GRAVESEND — Dr. Tim Law, the founder of the Chinese American Social Services Center (CASS), who has been appointed to the New York State Asian American and Pacific Islander Commission. Calling Dr. Law “a community stalwart,” Assemblymember William Colton (D-47), who represents the southern Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Gravesend, is commending Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to appoint Dr. Law,  who is one of six people named late last month to the commission, founded in 2023 to advise the governor about policies and programs that can benefit the AAPI community. Dr. Law, an educator with the City’s Department of Education for over three decades, has had a distinguished career in public service since emigrating from China to the United States in 1968. Through such initiatives as CASS, which he founded after retiring from the DOE, he has worked tirelessly, helping residents with limited English proficiency navigate governmental bureaucracy to access services that can benefit them, such as translation services, organized voter registration drives, food giveaways as well as Chinese language classes for youngsters.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) recently honored Dr. Law with the organization’s prestigious Andrus Award for his decades of service to the community.
