Town hall aims to strategize cleanup of problematic intersection
BATH BEACH/GRAVESEND — A SPIKE IN ILLEGAL VENDING AND DUMPING in her district has prompted Councilmember Susan Zhuang to host a crucial town hall meeting on Thursday, June 27, at 3 p.m., to discuss efforts to clean up the intersection of 86th St. and Bay Parkway in Gravesend. Upon taking office, Zhuang pledged to clean up the area, which she says is rife with “all-time high” littering, illegal dumping and unlawful vending. In a statement announcing the meeting at 2336 86th St., Zhuang said, “The situation is hurting our communities — making our roadways less safe, dangerously overcrowding our sidewalks and harming our small businesses.” The meeting intends to obtain vital community feedback and develop a clear and comprehensive approach to alleviating the situation.
The intersection, in a majority Asian part segment of Bath Beach and Bensonhurst, is also nine blocks from the site of a proposed homeless shelter that Councilmember Zhuang, Assemblymember William Colton, area residents and merchants have been fighting for several months.
