GREENPOINT – THE MTA LAST week announced the appointment of a G train czar to handle communications related to the line’s impending summer-long repair shutdowns, reports Greenpointers. Hugo Zamora, formerly the coordinator for the pandemic-era overnight subway shutdowns, will oversee the agency’s efforts to communicate with the public on construction and service updates, as well as organize shuttle buses between affected stations. The upgrade project will see the replacement of the G’s current signaling system, which dates from the 1930s and is, according to the MTA, “a frequent source of service disruptions and delays,” as well as the replacement of 30 miles of track and renovations to stations along the route.

The G train will be shut down from June 28 to July 5 between Court Square and Nassau Avenue, from July 5 to Aug. 12 between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand and from Aug. 12 to Sept. 3 between Bedford-Nostrand and Church Avenue. More information about service changes, as well as information about shuttle bus service, can be found online at MTA.info.
