BAY RIDGE — Chris McCreight, Councilmember Justin Brannan’s chief of staff, held a fundraiser Thursday evening at the Lock Yard pub, located at 9221 Fifth Avenue, promoting his campaign for a seat in the 46th Assembly District (encompassing Coney Island and Sea Gate, as well as parts of Bath Beach, Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, Dyker Heights, and Gravesend).

McCreight is slated to lock horns with Alec Brook-Krasny — a Democrat turned Republican — who currently represents the district in this year’s general election.

McCreight has already been endorsed by a number of political power players, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Attorney General Letitia James, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and, of course, Brannan.

Addressing an intimate group of approximately 75 supporters that assembled in the backyard area of the Lock Yard, McCreight referred to himself as “the common sense guy who will get things done,” adding that he knows every inch of the district, while his opponent is out of touch with the community.

“[Brook-Krasny] subscribes to a MAGA-cult-type agenda — taking away a woman’s right to choose, banning books, and not caring about the environment — and that’s not what local Brooklynites want,” McCreight said. “They want someone that’s going to go up to Albany, bring back funding to our local public schools, and make everybody’s life a little bit easier.

“I don’t tell people I’m going to change the world as an assemblymember, but when I see something is wrong, I’m going to fix it.”

Before becoming chief of staff for Brannan, McCreight previously worked for Assemblymember Karim Camara (D-43, representing Crown Heights, Lefferts Gardens, and East Flatbush) and on a number of different campaigns — including ones with State Sen. Andrew Gounardes and former Councilmembers Vincent Gentile and Sal Albanese.

“I have a lot of experience and insight that I’ve gained throughout the years,” McCreight said.

Brannan, who also spoke at the event, noted, “Every fight, every victory we’ve had for this neighborhood, Chris has been there.”

“In the time we’re in, we need someone who can hit the ground running,” Brannan continued, “someone who doesn’t need the on-the-job training. The people deserve someone who will go up to Albany and fight like hell for them to deliver what we all need: better public transportation, quality housing we can actually afford, investments in our infrastructure, universal child care, and lower property taxes.

Last November, Brannan, himself, won against a Democrat turned Republican — former Councilmember Ari Kagan — by a margin of 17 percentage points.
