In 2023, the New York City Council passed Local Law 171 requiring NYC DOT to redesign the city truck route network to enhance safety, increase visibility, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the overall freight roadway network.

Recently, NYC DOT launched its Truck Route Network Redesign Public Feedback Portal! The Portal allows the public and freight industry to learn about the city’s truck route network and provide feedback. Users can comment and identify issues and concerns of the current network via an interactive map. Feedback will help inform NYC DOT on how and where they can look to improve the movement of trucks on city streets.

Atlantic Avenue is a mapped freight truck route, causing noise, congestion, and crashes. Everyone should provide feedback on the state of Atlantic Avenue.

Options for feedback that we feel are important to share about Atlantic Avenue and our surrounding streets include:

  • Poor network connection: Areas with inadequate truck route network connectivity often lead truck drivers to deviate from designated truck routes.
  • Weight & Height Restrictions: Overweight and/or over-dimensional trucks are often observed.
  • Limited Curb Access: Trucks observed blocking moving, bike, or bus lanes or having limited access to curbs for loading and unloading purposes.
  • Difficult Truck Turn: Limitations by the physical characteristics of the street, such as sharp turns.
  • Limited Truck Parking: Shortage of designated parking spaces for trucks.
  • Observed Bicyclist and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of bicycle and truck conflicts occurred.
  • Observed Pedestrian and Truck Conflict: Observed locations where multiple incidents of pedestrian and truck conflicts occurred.
  • Speeding Truck: Locations where trucks are observed speeding along the street or intersection.

The deadline to provide public feedback is June 30, 2024.
