BOISE, Idaho - Boise State was recognized as one of six nominees for the nation's Best Institutional NIL Program. Student Athlete NIL announced its nominations for the Inaugural NIL Awards, recognizing exceptional achievement by student-athletes, brands and institutions during the first year of name, image and likeness.

The Best Institutional NIL Program Award recognizes the college or institution that has shown exceptional commitment to supporting its student-athletes in maximizing their name, image and likeness opportunities through a combination of education, resources and industry-leading innovation.

Boise State is joined in the category by Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Ohio State. The winner will be named June 13, as part of the NIL Awards gala ceremony at the Inaugural NIL Summit in Atlanta at the College Football Hall of Fame. There will be 13 awards handed out at the ceremony. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges spanning the sports and entertainment industry.

"The student-athlete experience will always be our priority at Boise State and this nomination is a testament to our staff's dedication to making that experience the best it can be," said director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey. "We've just scratched the surface with our commitment to navigating the new era of NIL, and I am proud of the great work our NIL team has done so far to achieve this recognition."

Boise State has taken an aggressive approach to name, image and likeness, setting out to build the most student-athlete friendly NIL program in the country. The "What's Next" program is the A.C.E. up the sleeve of Bronco student-athletes, providing Advocacy, Content and Education that will allow them to maximize their NIL opportunities:
  • Advocacy - Boise State provides a full-service in-house agency that seeks deals on behalf of student-athletes, including co-branded deals with Boise State marks and logos, and group licensing opportunities. The program also works with local businesses to devise, execute and track high-impact campaigns that leverage the marketability of Boise State student-athletes.

  • Content - The power of a dedicated creative team a with professional-grade photo and video studio and brand-new podcast studio, as well as a content-delivery strategy that helped Boise State rank in the top 10 nationally for content uploads to INFLCR in the fall and the Broncos' men's basketball program rank No. 4 nationally in downloads for the month of January.

  • Education - An all-in approach from the institution, which includes the advent of university-sponsored courses around brand building and content creation; financial literacy; and tax-reporting seminars. One of the first partnerships created by the in-house program created an opportunity for student-athletes to work with a local accounting firm on filing tax returns at a reduced rate.
One of the elements that truly sets Boise State apart from what other institutions are doing is the Boise State NIL Agreement - a voluntary, non-exclusive agreement available to all Bronco student-athletes. Signing up allows Boise State's in-house agency to represent them, seek opportunities and include them in group licensing deals. It also gives those student-athletes access to the Boise State Athletics logo - including photos of themselves in uniform or team-issued gear - to use in approved NIL opportunities.

Boise State's program is designed to provide value to every eligible student-athlete, no matter their individual approach to NIL opportunities.

The most significant deal to date was personalized jersey t-shirts for all men's and women's basketball student-athletes. Boise State's NIL team worked with a local licensee to create the opportunity and, by taking on most of the legwork in house, was able to eliminate some costs and allow the student-athletes to earn royalty well above industry standard. Each men's and women's basketball student-athlete earned 20 percent of each retail and wholesale purchase of their t-shirts.
