Coastal Communities Fund update

Following a meeting with DCLG official yesterday we are now able to confirm the status of the promised 4th and 5th (2015/16 and 2016/17) UK wide rounds of the Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) and suggest a possible direction for future lobbying effort in respect of CCF:

Review of Visitor Accommodation Quality Assurance Scheme

VisitWales today announced a  desk review of the current National Tourist Board and AA Visitor Accommodation Quality Assurance Scheme.  The results, to be made available and discussed in Wales in the summer, may well have implications for tourism and the visitor economy in Wales but also potentially, by implication, for the wider UK industry: http://gov.wales/topics/tourism/gradingl1/quality-assurance-review/?lang=en.

Select Committee report and more

The CMS Select Committee report on Tourism together with The Westminster Government’s recently published UK Business Visits and Events strategy can be found at: http://britishdestinations.net/strategies-and-policies/.

Two new reports added to the Britishdestionation.net statistics and reports library

After a software glitch that has limited our ability to updates on Britishdestinations.net we back up and running with two new important reports:

  • 20 years in 12 towns a report commissioned by HLF on the benefits of heritage

and

  • the full DCMS report on the Triennial Review of VisitBritain and VisitEngland

These reports are well worth reading, but if time is an issue we would encourage you to at least scan the Triennial Review summary and recommendations on pages 5 to 7.  The HLF report summary is a less easy read; it is on pages 7 to 10.
