DCMS – VisitEngland – EH and National Trust half term campaign detail:

Posted on

Received from VisitEngland 23 October but unable to access sufficient band width whilst travelling yesterday to complete posting.  Rather short notice but some English destinations may still be able to take advantage of this opportunity:

INTRODUCTION

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has teamed up with VisitEngland, English Heritage, and National Trust to run a mini digital campaign focused around the half term period.

The aim of the campaign is to promote small tourism businesses in the UK, by encouraging people to talk proudly about their local communities and favourite tourist attractions across their social media channels, using the #GREATdayout hashtag. The campaign will be focused around days out, highlighting what people can enjoy across the holiday period.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

• Use the #GREATdayout hashtag from 20 October and during half-term week to join the conversation

• Look to create your own content promoting what you have on offer and share it on your channels using the #GREATdayout hashtag. Make us aware of your content so we can help promote it with our followers

• Ask your followers to share images of their #GREATdayout with @DCMS

• Businesses can also provide images to DCMS by contacting Amanda Downey at  Amanda.downey@culture.gsi.gov.uk with a short quote about your half term activities and they will share via their channels

• Competition: DCMS will be running a competition on Twitter from 27 October asking people to tell us them why they love their local area/attractions. This will also be added to the DCMS Pinterest wall. If you would like to provide a competition prize from your area for example a hamper of local produce, please contact Amanda Downey at Amanda.downey@culture.gsi.gov.uk

Carrier Direct Marketing to produce the 2015 Visit Pembrokeshire Guide

Posted on

The Pembrokeshire Holiday Guide is due to return for 2015 after a year’s absence.

Following discussions between Carrier Direct Marketing, one of the UK’s leading tourism marketing support specialists and the tourism team at Pembrokeshire County Council, an agreement has been reached to produce a joint destination guide for 2015.

Carrier Direct Marketing, who have a design studio, call centre and mailing house operate from their purpose built premises in Devon and have produced Visitor Guides for many destinations including Visit Worthing, Visit Eastbourne, Tourism North Yorkshire, Eden District Council, Visit Worcestershire, Suffolk Coast and Weston Super Mare Town Council.

The last Pembrokeshire holiday guide produced by the council was in 2013 and ceased production because of spiralling costs. The arrangement with Carrier Direct Marketing is that it will be produced as a commercial venture at no cost to the Council. It’s believed that this is the first such arrangement in the UK tourism sector.

Alan Turner, Tourism Marketing and Development Manager for Pembrokeshire County Council, said Carrier Direct has been undertaking the mailing of the Pembrokeshire Guide on behalf of the council over a period of about 15 years.

“This is a great public-private sector arrangement that dovetails perfectly with the work we are doing in promoting Pembrokeshire digitally and through our Tourist Information network.”

“They intend to promote the guide in much the same way as it was in the past through a promotional campaign, and we are also hoping to re-join the Wales co-ordinated marketing campaign run by Visit Wales,” he said.

“This is an ideal solution for everyone. We have had such a good working relationship with Carrier Direct in the past that we have total confidence in them and know they will produce a quality publication.”

Business Development Manager for The Carrier Group, Alistair Bruce said ‘It is great to be working with Pembrokeshire County Council on the 2015 brochure. The relationship between the 2 organisations has always been very strong and we look forward to developing this further over the coming years’.

‘We have produced many destination guides over the years for our clients, but this is the first such arrangement of private ownership with council branding. With tourism budgets throughout the UK constantly being cut, we are in discussions with a number of other destinations to form similar partnerships.’

The guide is due to be published in December 2014 with marketing campaigns starting in January 2015.

For 2015 Carrier Direct Marketing will also be producing the ‘Experience Devon’ guide, covering the whole of the Devon region. This is being produced independently but with the support of many of the individual partners within the region.
