The second UCS Star Wars model I worked on. I loved working on this model, it was so much fun playing around with the greebling. The biggest challenge as explained in the designer video was the Engines, trying to make it rounded with the pylons on the 45 degree angle was a real headache...and then voila! Turntables, my best friend at the time!

The LEGO Movie 2 has been an incredible journey from start to finish. It has been the last 2 years of my LEGO career working with a phenomenal team! Every designer in the team had a hand in every model which is a great way to work. This was one of the models I took and finalized. I hope the public will one day be able to see just how many versions and iterations we went through on all of these models, and even models that never made it to products! We did not just design products for this movie, we designed in collaboration with Warner Bros, the entire universe!

Working with Rex's design style was a lot of fun but also very challenging. Our LEGO Raptors are not the easiest things to fit in a vehicle, let alone two of them! Karl Oscar Jonas worked on the early concept sketching and rough building for this and I took it through our design phase.

This...this model was tough! For me, I think this was the most difficult model I have ever worked on from a technical and stability stand point. I am aware that the function on the front to shoot the cartridge of missiles does not function as well as intended. They are designed to glide down so you can fire 6 rapidly, unfortunately the tolerances can cause it to get stuck. If this has happened to you, press down the plates on the cartridge firmly, and pull the gap at the top of the model apart slightly!

Anyway, despite this I am still incredibly proud of this model and what we managed to achieve with it! I remember building the microscale Rex ships as a random idea for a potential polybag or minifigure collectible accessory. Turns out it fits perfectly in this model! Can anyone spot the small easter egg in the arcade room? Those arcades are colour coordinated in a particular order!

After most of The LEGO Movie 2 team moved on to new projects, I stayed to wrap up the final tasks and a small batch of models for a 3rd wave. We couldn't not release the sparkly purple and gold Metalbeard! I had already worked on The Sea Cow for TLM and so the scale of this Metalbeard was very familiar to me. My good friend and colleague Jason Moreno had his hand in this too and I think it turned out pretty fabulous!

After TLM2, I was thrown into another crazy project! The top secret Monkie Kid! A theme specifically tailored to an eastern market. I was apprehensive at first, not really knowing much about the theme, but a quick turn around on the model development was needed. I saw the food truck and was like 'yup, that's the model for me!' I really like to design silly models, and this one was right up there...I mean come on, it has a pig gun on the top! I got to experiment with a lot of small details on the inside of this admittedly massive truck! 12 studs wide! This just allowed for a lot of play inside and hidden features. I really like the flip over stove and fold down screen. It isn't anything complicated or all that new, it just fit the model really well!

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best!

Before leaving the Monkie Kid project I had the opportunity to work on the high price point for that year; The Flaming Foundry. A lot of people have drawn comparisons to the NexoKnights Fortrex, and while I did draw inspiration from that, I also wanted to give the Foundry it's own unique flavour. I was really excited about working with the large Power Miner wheels and figuring out how they could lock together as part of the function.

Shrinking the wonderful Bull Demon King into a playset version was a lot of fun too!

Shortly after taking over the LEGO IDEAS project, I was presented with an opportunity to work on one of the sets that made it through review. The designers on the team were already occupied with other briefs and so I was very happy to be able to work on the 50th LEGO IDEAS set!

I am fascinated by the animal kingdom and the LEGO IDEAS submission from Hachiroku24 was just the perfect idea to get started!

As the Creative Lead in LEGO IDEAS, being able to develop this Dungeons & Dragons set truly is a dream come true. I really wanted this set to be developed with passion and so assembled a team of epic adventurers in The LEGO Group. There were 3 model designers on this product; Mark, Wes and Chris, as well as 4 graphic designers and 2 element designers.

The only contribution I had to the physical product was the Displacer Beast which was a really fun challenge since it has 6 legs. 4 legs would have been easy but this sleek panther like creature just has to have an additional 2! I think it turned out well for the scale and really looks like what it is meant to. I think angling the printed eyes down more makes it look more aggressive, and turning them up makes it much cuter and sillier!

Overall, as a D&D fan, a player, and a DM I am extremely proud of everyone who worked on this SKU. We had an amazing partner collaboration, a wonderful fan designer and an awesome team of designers, marketeers, and so on!

I hope everyone enjoys this SKU and sees the passion the team put into it!

While we were developing the product for LEGO IDEAS, an opportunity came up to design a GWP for it. The team were busy with the huge LEGO IDEAS model, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to flex my building skills once again.

Mimics are undoubtedly my favourite D&D monster, so I jumped at the chance to bring this iconic creature to life. I had one goal, it had to fit a standard set of D&D dice, of which there are 7, and you can definitely fit them in!

There was ideas to have a transforming function in the beginning, but it would have compromised the overall purpose of the set and used too many parts for a GWP.

Overall, I think it is a fun GWP and hope that everyone likes it! Just be careful when opening it ;)
