The most fun possible for £35!

Written by (KFOL) in United Kingdom,

7868-1 Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter is a 2011 £35 January wave set. This set is a little expensive but is worth it for the playability.

    Box/Instructions

Lego always have mouth-watering box decorations and the instructions are nice and easy to follow. The back of the box is a little cramped design-wise but it is still tempting!

    Parts

Being a KFOL, I don't rate sets on parts and this set isn't exciting. No parts that I can see are new, but it is a nice parts pack nonetheless.

    Minifigures

Mace Windu's CW variation has been criticized but it is a great figure in truth. The battle droids are nothing special, but one downside is the fact that they don't come with blasters. Last but definitely not least is the Tactical Droid, who has a superb head and torso piece combo. His figure is amazing, and should be made more commercially available.

    The build

The build of the starfighter is a little basic with standard techniques. It is still different from other starfighters from TCW as it includes a poor quad-flick missile system underneath. Not forgetting the STAPS, which haven't been changed since the promo pack but are a nice playability touch. The droid speeder is amazing, as I love the tiled seat and the sleek design.

    The completed model

This set's four separate parts are great to be played with, and look nice on display if you have a little scene/battle going on on your shelf!

    Summary

Overall this set is great, although a little pricey, but is worth it whatever age or whatever aspect of Star Wars you enjoy!

Blast off with Mace Windu´s Starfighter!

Written by (TFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in New Zealand,

Heres the Pros and Con of the set 7868, Mace Windu´s Jedi Starfighter.

    The Minifigures:

Mace Windu from the Clone Wars, as seen in set 8019,Republic Attack Shuttle.

R8-D7- Mace´s trusty astromech, which is unique to the set fits in the astromech socket. 2 Battle Droids on STAPs (Single Trooper Aerial Platform). And, the Tactical Droid, TX-20 with a new droid torso and head design.

    The Build:

The build is relatively simple, there are no mistakes in the building instructions, and every thing in the booklet is easy to understand.

The build doesn´t take long, but its not over in 2mins.

The 2 Battle Droids also come with extra arms, turned, so they can hold the blasters included. the lightsaber clip on the back of the wings, in 2 pieces.

    Pros

    * Cool new Minifigures
    * Cool Starfighter
    * Cheaper than other LEGO Star Wars sets.

    Cons

    * A few stickers, I had to adjust the positioning on a few.
    * Cockpit roof doesn´t have a hinge, it just clips on.

All in All it is an Awesome set, buy it if you are a fan of LEGO Star Wars, it doesn´t disappoint. A Must Have for any serious collector.

    7868 - Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter

Written by (TFOL , rhodium-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

This set surprised me, when I first saw it I expected it to be boring, only really good for the Tactical Droid. But it is so much more than that. This is an excellent set, it has all you need for a great battle. The figures are good, but it is the vehicles which won me over.

    Box/Instructions

The box shows Mace Windu's starfighter flying low across a barren landscape, possibly Geonosis, under attack by two STAPs (Single Trooper Aerial Platform) and a Flitknot Speeder. Two of the Jedi Starfighter's missiles have been launched and are heading for the Tactical Droid as the STAPs fire their laser cannons.

In my set the instructions were correct and I had no missing pieces.

    Parts

There are a few nice parts in this set, such as of course the Tactical Droid's combined head and torso piece. There are also several flat pieces in dark red, a fairly rare colour and quite a few nice deep blue slopes, which I like. I love the printing on all of the Astromech droids, and this one (R8-B7) is also very nice.

    Minifigures

There are five minifigures in this set, Mace Windu, who is useful for people who did not get the Republic Attack Shuttle from 2009, two battle droids which are always welcome, the new Astromech unit R8-B7, who's paint scheme is very vibrant and interesting, and the incredible Tactical Droid, who looks absolutely wonderful, particularly aboard the Flitknot Speeder. The Tactical Droid is TX-20 (as seen in 'Innocents of Ryloth') but could also be the tactical droid seen speaking to Asajj Ventress in the episode 'The Hidden Enemy'.

    The build

Firstly let me say, if you don't like stickers (I don't mind them, but I prefer pieces to be printed) then you may not enjoy building this set much, as there are a lot of stickers, on the speeder alone there are seven stickers! This set took me about thirty minutes to assemble and once you were past the tricky sticker applications, it was plain sailing. I like how the STAPs are constructed, but beyond that there are few interesting building techniques.

    The completed model

When you get it all together, the set looks amazing, the inclusion of not just one, but two STAPs is welcome, as is the brilliant Flitknot Speeder (I just love the seat). But the main attraction is the spectacular starfighter, it is extremely accurate to the one seen in the Clone Wars episode from season two 'R2 Come Home' and the colours are lovely. I like the inclusion of four flick fire missiles underneath the fighter, which fire two at a time. The figures look great on all of the vehicles (especially R8-B7 in the fighter) and all together this makes for a great set.

    Summary

I have to say I expected little from this set, but I am pleasantly surprised! The set makes for a good battle alone, but with some other sets, such as the Battle For Geonosis this could be very useful. With great display and play opportunities this set is just fantastic.

    Overall - 10/10

Starfighter Wars, Episode IV: A New...Starfighter...

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

This set is the 4th Starfighter released for the Clone Wars (Anikan, Ashoka, Plo Koon), but 7th starfighter overall (Obi Wan's Starfighter and the UCS version) This is my first starfighter, and I think it looks good. The figures, especially the Tactical Droid look good, along with R8-D7. Windu looks good, being CW and all, even if he has no printing on the back.

The ship has the same pattern the other fighters have with the wings clipped on. It's a good way to get it on, as I can't imagine it being any different. The flickfires are perfect here as they are easy to fire, easy to take out. The saber is holded on the back, but it's really difficult to get the saber out without knocking the engine off. The vehicle for the Tactical Droid looks alright. The STAPS are good, they being a first for me.

    Pros

    • Allright design
    • Good figure and good printing
    • Good flick-fire missiles

    Cons

    • The stickers. Seriously, they print a Republic logo, but they can't print a tiny one?
    • Pricing could've been $5 less, then again the ratio's about 12, so take it or leave it.

Overall, I recommend this set for anyone who just wants to have a Starfighter, but doesn't want Plo Koon's, or wait for the next one.

The Man in Black is Back and he has some new tricks

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

Mace Windu, that moron that we all remeber from episode 1, 2, and 3 and now more recently some of the cartoon series. And he hasn't gotten better since. They set up his character to be a jerk so it is. But despite all that you have to like the new set he is in. There have been multiple other jedi fighter sets but I think this is one that was got peoples attention. Why? Because it looked differnet. I don't mean the design but the content it came with. I know I had been waiting for the tactical droid for ages. And to get two more high flying staps was just to good too be true. Luckly it still is true. This set doesn't challenge you though. It is an easy set that everyone with a jedi star fighter has built. So over all it isn't that great but hey, I'm still going to use. So in the long run, don't shake before you try it. Bondady signing off.
