77013 ESCAPE FROM THE LOST TOMB is great but my least favourite compared to the other two sets from 2023. The figures are all accurate. Indy has gloves on and his legs, face, hat and accessories are in the other Indy sets. Marion's dress looks very nice; it even has the ripped part at the bottom which they used to light the torch. Her face and hair are a nice design; this is much better than the old figure. We finally get Sallah. His face print looks good. And the mummy doesn't get much screen time, so there is not much to base it on.

The ark looks good but is not accurate as the handles should be wood, not gold as they were slid under to take the ark out. The statues are both exactly the same but look way better than the ones in 7621 and only one falls over, as that's accurate. The problem is that there is nothing to hold it in place, so it wobbles or falls over when moving it or touching it. It knocks the wall over to reveal a mummy! The back view doesn't look good.

There are references to other themes, like Star Wars with C-3PO and R2-D2 on the side of the entranceway arch and on the wall there is a Bionicle helmet and maybe a space police 3 alien or the crystal skull?. Overall, this set is good, and I would highly recommend this set to anyone interested in it.

Best value for a set in a long time

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

This is my first set that wasnt star wars or marvel in many years. I absolutely love how this set looks. The building experience was great, with a new minifigure in each bag, which was exciting to build. I'm glad Sallah was finally created in minifigure form. The set is larger than it looks in pictures, which is rare for Lego. The 7-year old me is freaking out because I loved playing Lego Indiana Jones on the Wii and I loved playing with the Lego System Adventurers sets when I was younger. Overall, this is an awesome set!!

    Lost Tomb (5/5)

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

I'm not sure what the folks at Lego have been drinking that's made these sets so reasonably priced but I'm very grateful for it. This set represents probably the best value this side of the Icons (né 18+) line that I've ever seen. The figures are superb (although the likeness to Karen Allen could be stronger, it isn't at all an issue), the build is fine (although a little repetitive owing to two Anubis statues—the instructions separate them though, so fear not the dreaded "×2" at the end) and the overall model is surprisingly bulky.

I say surprisingly, because at first glance I thought this looked like the worst set of the wave, given that it appeared to just be a wall, which while accurate hardly makes for an engaging experience. Hidden behind it however is an area entirely devoted to scaring Marion with the mummy, the damp and darkness cleverly suggested with the use of stickers and sand green elements. I'm not convinced this area is perfect—the fact it sticks out makes the set more difficult to display than it should be, and while the purpose of it is obvious, there isn't anywhere obvious to stand Marion to reenact the scenario.

Lost Tomb is successful largely thanks to its unheard of price-to-piece AND price-to-size value. It's also going to be a hit with people who remember the old Adventurers line and/or are interested in history, as it's the first representation of Ancient Egypt (not including the Architecture pyramid) since Pharaoh's Quest to my knowledge. It isn't perfect but at this price it doesn't really need to be; there aren't any obvious cut corners and there aren't any obvious areas for improvement that can't be done yourself. It leaves me wanting a historical theme even more than I did before though.

    Great Price-to-Part Ratio.

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

Overall, this set was fun to assemble, especially the two jackal statues. Also, the price-to-part ratio has been one of the best ones for years. All four figures are nicely detailed and the pieces used to construct the tomb have a nice variety of colors and shapes.

A Vast Improvement On The Original With Some Missed Opportunities

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in New Zealand,

Comparing this with the original set #7621 "Indiana Jones and the Lost Tomb" shows a vast improvement in quality over 15 years, so much so that looking back it seems that the original could have been designed by someone who had never seen the film and was relying on descriptions of the scene. This set is much closer to the quality of displays models like #77015 "Temple of the Golden Idol" than a play set, all you'd need to do is add a base, a quote and a higher price tag.

However, there is one major area where the set is let down. The bonus 'tomb' area behind the wall either needed to have extra work done to make it more complete, or to be left out entirely. I'm tempted to rebuild the set without this area at all, just so that I can put the set against a wall without this area sticking out the back.

A more minor complaint is that the Ark is the central element of the set but is obscured by the arches, making it harder to see. The ark should have been in front of the arches or possibly underneath them. A crate to store the Ark in would have also been a very welcome feature.

Other than these minor points, the set is very excellent. The statues look perfect and the wall looks much more like the wall of an Egyptian tomb than the original set. The minifigures are great as well, it's nice to finally have Sallah in minifigure form. Also, the Star Wars character easter egg is much less prominent in this set than in the original where it stuck out like a sore thumb.

The biggest missed opportunity of this set is that there should be four statues rather than two, and honestly I would have bought a second set if instructions had been included on how to rebuild the set to include four statues with a pair of walls at right angles. This is mostly a missed opportunity for LEGO because I imagine they would have increased their sales substantially if they had included this as an official option.
