One of the best LEGO Star Wars sets ever created.
The Trade Federation MTT from 2007 is a phenomenal set, easily surpassing its predecessor and successor models. Let's start with the cons and then get to the pros:
Price. This is an issue that applies much more now than it did in 2007, but it's not 2007 anymore, so I feel that this is a very relevant thing to point out. To get this set even used, you'll be paying the price of a smaller-scale UCS set. Depending on what type of collector you are, this might or might not be worth it for you. If you can find a good deal on it relative to the other listings out there, this is a good set to pick up.
The connections of the two side guns are also quite loose, and they can fall off easily.
Beyond that, I really need to nitpick to find genuine problems with this set. The overwhelming amount of brown pieces could be troublesome since they are notorious for breaking, but this really isn't a significant issue if you take decent care of your sets. The battle droid minifigures can start to have weak connections over time, causing some to slump over, but this isn't inherent to the model itself and both of these issues are situational.
Now for the pros. The MTT still holds up visually for being a 2007 set, since it's not extremely blocky like some of the classic SW sets. The size is also very appropriate for the vehicle in question...I believe it isn't quite minifigure scale, but the size of this set is still substantial, especially compared to the older version of it and the 2014 successor.
There are a LOT of panels to mess around with relative to the size of the model. A top hatch for the pilots, two side panels for the pilots, two side panels for the droid chamber, two on the sides of the back end for the included speeder, and a hatch directly on the back for the aforementioned speeder. We'll get to the most significant panel-related-feature in a second...
The number of minifigures included in this set is insane. Yes, they are all battle droids, but that is very appropriate considering the vehicle it represents. This set does what many other "troop carrier" sets do not by actually including the sufficient number of figures to fill the entire model.
This set is very stable when it comes to holding it and playing around with it. Additionally, it has some sets of wheels on the bottom for easy maneuvering.
The main draw of this set to me is the main function; the droid deployment rack. A smsll black gear on the right side of the model (which blends in fairly well) can be turned to activate a simple gear mechanism that pushes the droid carrier rack out of the front of the MTT vehicle. Even as an AFOL, this is a fun feature to simply fidget with, and for kids it is very good for the playability of the set. The droid storage is, as I already mentioned, very large for a set like this.
Overall, the Trade Federation MTT from 2007 is a very good Lego Star Wars model that holds up very well as of 2023. It is currently on the pricier side of things, but if you can snag this for a decent deal, you will have a very great and fun set in your collection.

A Fan Favorite Classic
There isn't much to say about this set. THe MTT looks pretty decent, scales well to figures, includes a really nice speeder which can carry one of the many modules included in the set (blaster storage, droid rack, communication station), a killer play feature with the large droid holder which can transport 16 battle droids, and to go with that a ton of droids.
The build is mostly brick-based with a few plates. It's sturdy and easy to follow and looks alright. Its size makes up for its inaccurate proportions and it ends up looking quite good.
The figures are perfect. This is basically a mega droid battle pack with 2 pilots, 2 security droids, 16 B1s, and a so-and-so droideka. The droids, except for the droideka, fit in the vehicle. The droideka is definitely the weakest aspect of this build as it doesn't really look great, is oversized, and has basically no articulation.
For only $100 when this was released it was a steal back then and has aged very well compared to the other sets of that era. Its not hard to see why this set is so well regarded compared to the newer smaller 2014 variant, despite that version having a significant price decrease and better shaping.

MTT droid carrier
The droid carrier is a great army builder with 16 regular B1 battle droids. The droideka build is in my opinion the best lego has put out, however the arms occasionally fall off. The main build of the set holds up even to today's standards and is very sturdy. The set is more fleshed out than the other two droid carriers and of a much larger and better scale.
The inside of the build can be accessed from all angles as there are panels that open up. It is supported by a technic frame with transparent wheels to give the impression of it hovering.
Overall the set it extremely movie accurate with some very nice minifigures and play functions.

AWESOME!
This set is a true LEGO masterpiece!
Box/Instructions
Large box showing all the features. The TWO instruction manuals are easy to understand, as always.
Parts
There's over 1,000 in this one, and most of them are really cool.
Minifigures
16 Battle Droids+2 Pilot Droids+ 2 Security Droids+ 1 Droideka= 21 Figs! (Or awesomeness, for short).
The build
VERY unique build.
The completed model
The completed model is pure awesomeness, with weapon storage, speeder housing, droid rack, cockpit, and much, much more!
Summary
I reccomend this set HIGHLY to ANY LEGO fan. If you find one, BUY IT! It is totally worth the money!

Far better than the last one
The title says it all. This model is a vast improvement on the original Lego brought out in 2000, both the model itself and the amount of figures you receive with it. The model itself is a lot more sturdy (you don't think that each time you pick it up it could break in half if the pins failed) and the droid capacity has far increased, with 16 droids in the carrier rather than 6, as well as a small craft that fits in the back of the MTT.
The droideka is also good as well, helping to add to the 'Battle of Naboo' element this set is based around. This set takes a lot of work to build, but is even worse to dismantle, as unlike many other craft in Star Wars there is no simple starting point (e.g. cockpit or a wing), which helps to make the model far more rigid. Unfortunately, the demand for this quality of set has helped to drive up its price significantly in the 5 years it has been around, and many have been selling at over £150 used/opened, far more for a sealed set.
Pros
- Excellent droid capacity
- Vast exterior and interior improvements
- Droideka
- Moves easy on wheels
Cons
- Quite heavy to lift
- Quite difficult to disassemble
- Likely to cost a fair bit to obtain one.
Overall, a fantastic set and well worth the money you spend on it. Just make sure when you build it, it stays built for a long time, as you aren't going to want to dismantle this complex a model.
