Ministry Of Magic The Golden Trio Vist

Written by (AFOL) in New Zealand,

I have been coveting this set for a while and when it was reduced on sale I snapped it up.It is a welcome new building addition to the Harry Potter World and has all the elements of the Order of the Phoenix movie scene where Harry, Hemione and Ron infiltrating the Ministry of Magic. It is a modulear set with each room as a stand-alone build that you can adapt to different configurations, so you can add multiple sets easily, which is useful for MOCS. The front view has all the decorative elements in red, gold and earth green colours which are attractive together .Bay windows lend a nice contour and there are also moving parts for apperating in and out of the ministry fireplace or sending newspapers everywhere. The back view shows the offices of Delores Umbridge, Arther Weasley, the Court room and the Prophecy room (its lovely !) which also has a moving action and all of which have many parts relevant to them squeezed in such small areas . Two separate small builds included are the brilliant telephone box ,easily adaptable to city mocs and the central fountain, although it is the earlier movie form rather than the crushed muggles one! Connecting both room wings is the archway (which though firm enough in situ, won't support carrying the set around) again it is a nod to the movie set but also has nice scene elements on top. Included are many minifigs with finely detailed torsos and relevant to the scene. All but one are unique . Things I would of liked included were a little more floor space in the offices to fit minifigs and the telephone shaft. Also, I think the box was way too large for the set as it gave the expectation of a bigger build. All in all I really like this set. It's great to get so many forest green parts, and it does display well. There are some fun pieces to discover, and it expands the Harry Potter story rather than rehashing a previous one.

Quite an Astounding Set with Lots of Minifigures and Amazing Pieces

Written by (TFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

The Ministry of Magic Harry Potter set is quite astounding. The thing I like most about non-Hogwarts Harry Potter structures is that they can easily fit in real life and look amazing.

PIECES: The set also includes many great pieces. This set includes a bunch of Earth Green colors that have either never been seen before or rarely appear in any sets. This includes the masonry brick, two archway pieces, and the 3x3x2 round brick corner with a dome top. That last piece is definitely a great inclusion as it appeared only twice before in the great Grand Emporium and a random Hidden Side set. Although it definitely isn’t the most expensive piece or most important piece from the Grand Emporium, I am still glad it is here. There are also many other great prints such as ones for the 1x1 rounds tiles (thankfully), for the mail, for a picture of Harry Potter, and for the telephone booth door. I am very happy that the telephone booth’s door was printed, and it definitely makes the telephone booth quite desirable.

I’d only suggest people to get this set for the telephone booth if they had some very deep connection with a telephone booth. If you are reading this and telephone booths and Lego mean the world to you, I’d suggest you go out and immediately buy this set just for it. (Even though there’s a Lego ideas Phone Booth, you gotta get ‘em all, don’t you?)

PLAY: With enough of that, let’s carry on. The play features in this set are definitely fun such as the apparition though I can’t say they are absolutely brilliant. They just do their job.

MINIFIGURES: The number of minifigures include is also very amazing. I’m not going to go too in depth on all of them so you should check out another reviewer’s video on YouTube. I will say the numbers are great though the detail is a bit lacking. Unfortunately, only one mini figure has leg printing. I would definitely have liked maybe three more minifigures to have leg-printing though maybe that’s why Lego Star Wars will only include four minifigures in a $170 set. In the end, the fact that we have these characters in minifigure form is great even if they don’t look as great as they could.

VALUE: The value in the set can be a little questionable. Buying this set for 20% off or 30% off seems like a fair deal for what you get. When looking at the value of what the end result was after each bag, I asked myself if what was there is worth around $15. In the end, I felt sort of split on it. Some bags did have stuff that seemed like it was worth $15 while others barely did. (The finished results of the bag should be valued at around $15 as there are seven bags and the set costs $100. This may not be fair judgement though I found it a bit easier judging it in smaller chunks) The set probably should have hand more leg printing or just be $5 cheaper and the price would feel fine.

BUILD EXPERIENCE: When building this set, I felt a sense of joy in just putting the set together. I don’t know why I felt that way. It could have been because I was taking breaks? Though, it doesn’t make that much sense as the set has a lot of repetition, and there weren’t any interesting functions. Nevertheless, this was a great build.

    PROS:

    • Amazing Build
    • Large Minifigure Selection
    • Great Pieces

    CONS:

    • Price
    • Little Minifigure Leg Prints
