A Solid Set, But Not for the Value

Lego 75383, Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator, features Lego's fifth iteration of a ship that did not have much screen time in the first episode of Star Wars. That is, the fifth iteration in addition to whatever polybags or other models there may be of the Sith infiltrator. Let's get right into it.

The minifigures are fantastic. Here are some details: Qui-Gon's cloth piece is excellent. The head piece for Darth Maul is awesome. The head piece for Anakin is amusing and versatile. The exclusive Saw Gerrera minifigure has excellent detail, including two differently-colored hands (though I would have liked more grey to this minifigure's green). Overall, these minifigures excellently continue the theme of Star Wars minifigures becoming more and more detailed over the years. Unfortunately, only four minifigures for a £59.99/$69.99/€69.99 set (and one of them being the special Saw minifigure) is a low number. I would like to have seen someone such as Watto, R2-D2, or even Shmi Skywalker added. Lego hit the nail on the head with the minifigure selections for the 2011 and 2015 versions of this set. Another thing I would have liked to have seen added would be a hood, cape, or both for Maul.

The build itself was not as annoying as might be suspected for a symmetrical ship, which makes the building experience fun. Internally, the ship is not entirely greys: there are some cool green, pink, and orange pieces, though these are minimal. The build is fun as a result of the varied colours and the sensible nature of the build: one could make out how the ship was becoming the ship. In addition to these parts, there are a few transparent pieces, which add to the variety of the parts used in a fun way.

The playability is apparent. With three minifigures (plus Saw, if desired), and two of them wielding lightsabers, a fight scene could be made. The probe droids included and Maul's speeder bike enhance the potential for the set to be used as a play piece. I wish there could have been a small desert item added, like a buildup of sand, to enhance playability, but that may not make sense for a starship type of set.

Unfortunately, for a £59.99/$69.99/€69.99 price tag, the ship seems small, and three minifigures (plus the special Saw minifigure) is not a lot. I was able to fund my purchase partially with a gift card, so that took some of the blow, but the set could probably be 20% cheaper. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool ship and overall a fun set, but the disappointment is that it is an expensive one.

Overall, I would give this set a 4/5, with price being the main drawback.
