Good But Sadly Overprice 1st Jedi Temple Set

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

The price of $40 for this was way too expensive, and I got my hands on it when I saw it on clearance for $9. This set is based on the kids' show, 'Young Jedi Adventure'.

    Minifigure

The minifigure included in the sets are Yoda, Lys Solay, and Kai Brightstar.
As far as I know, Lys is the first Pantoran minifigure of her species.

These robes are much more colourful, from the mostly brown, black and tan we had from other Jedi. Even Yoda's white robe has some yellow highlights on it. Though I would say I think the lime hands on Kai don't look right.

But a sad, annoying thing with the younglings' torses is having prints of their capes. Problematic with wanting to use a different colour cape for custom jedi.

Aside from Kai's hair. The face, hair and head are really great. With how different Yoda is from being in lime rather than olive or sand green, it could be seen as a completely different character.

As for Lys, I hope we see her hair again in different colours, though it isn't best for double-sided face with her mouth exposed on the back of her head.

The reason I don't like Kai's hair is it simply looks more like a helmet rather than hair. Short hair with a mohawk just doesn't work for this.

    Speeder Bike

A nice simple Speeder Bike with the highlighted details of the one in the show, and able to fit in two minifigures. Though I think using 24299 & 24307 over the cut corner of 26601 on the front would've been the more accurate piece.

    Droid & Training Area

While the droid has good head printing, it looks nothing like the one from the show. As this is a 4+, it was made from 4 round pieces on a dish. There's only one arm, which surprisingly, can still reach and knock down the blocks from the training area.

The training area is very simple with just an archway with a few pieces and a small knock over the block in front. Though I don't understand why this choice was made, given they are meant to be knocked over, any form of studs and function are unnecessary.

    Jedi Temple

For the first time, we're getting a Jedi Temple, with the insignia atop of the entrance.

Using this large with 3 opening frame piece, the printed parts are used on the window pieces, allowing them to still be used without the need/wanting to remove the print.

The printing along with the plant pieces add good detail to the temple, along with the gothic arch entrance giving it shape.

On the outside of the temple there are some potted plants and a force-lifted boulder, stuff fitting for the temple.

But the inside, on the other hand, doesn't give me the temple feel and more of a house. Having a bunk bed and kitchen. Not exactly the first thing I think when I hear 'temple'. I haven't seen the full show and I know it isn't the one on Coruscant, but the Jedi Archives is the one thing I think most when it comes to the Jedi Temple.

    Overall

It's honestly sad to me that the first Jedi Temple (regardless of it being 4+) we ever got is way too expensive for what we get, not to mention the piece count. It feels like it should've been $10-$15 less. (though if I'm honest, it being $9 feels fitting)

Despite the droid and the inside of the temple, it's a good set. But the $40 price just turns you away from it without a second thought, and the major reason why I wouldn't recommend it is at full price. If you find it much lower in price or also find it at $9, I would recommend it.
