    Very good set.

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

Overall, this set is very close to perfect, and accurate to the game; basically the only part that is not very accurate and could've been more accurate is the antennae things. The set itself is pretty solid, the price could have been a wee bit lower, but it's still a good well-designed set. The heel of the foot on BD-1 occasionally falls off and is somewhat flimsy. (It's fine if you don't mess with it too much) It's more to display then play with, but it's still somewhat solid to play with. Building it was a blast, I highly recommend getting this set if you're more looking to display it more then you are looking forward to playing with it; building wise I did get a scrape, but that is not much. I do recommend getting this set when you are 10+

Thanks for the great droid, LEGO.

When will we get the Mantis

Written by (TFOL , rhodium-rated reviewer) in United States,

This is a nearly perfect Lego set. The features included are great and are very game accurate and the scale is the same if nit similar to the scale ingame which is awesome. The figure of BD-1 is great as well. The only slight problem is the stability of the legs but as this is a display set it shouldn't be moved around often. I would highly suggest picking this set up.

A Faithful Recreation of a Loyal Companion

Written by (AFOL) in United Kingdom,

Since Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2015, the addition of iconic droid characters to the universe is something I've enjoyed greatly - BB-8 and K-2SO in particular. However, interacting with BD-1 with Jedi: Fallen Order has elevated him to my favourite droid of all time, alongside R2-D2 of course! So inevitably, I had to own this set.

Unlike traditional droid characters, BD-1's design infuses him more explicitly with abundant personality and a dynamic edge that more traditional droids (even bipedal ones) have in more subtle ways. His overall profile and large eyes, coupled with seeing him perched on Cal's back and looking over his shoulder, makes BD-1 akin to something between an owl and a parrot for me, and it's all lovingly recreated in this Lego set.

I can find very few faults with this set as a whole: I think my biggest one is that the articulation could have been improved to help emulate just how expressive this character is in the games. But beyond that? I love it. The overall build is incredibly smooth, striking a balance between detailed yet sleek, and most of all captures the adorable presence BD-1 has. It also helps that the set is fairly close to being at a 1:1 scale, and the stim canister tray is an excellent easter egg (don't poke yourself with those though, these ones don't heal). The inclusion of a new BD-1 minifigure mould is also nice to see, however I must admit I wish it could have been more detailed.

If droids have souls, then I think this set captures BD-1's incredibly well. I love looking at him perched on my bookshelf exuding the air of loyalty, companionship, and sheer expression we see in the games. I only wish the Lego Star Wars Team would see the demand for sets based on Fallen Order and Survivor; even if it's just a Stinger Mantis! However, I'm glad that the 25th Anniversary Cal Kestis figure coming later this year will no doubt complement this set beautifully.

Looks exactly like BD-1 from the game but not much playability

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in Indonesia,

Disclaimer: This set review is purely my opinion even though the set is given for free by TLG due to my status as LEGO Community Ambassador.

This droid is the BD-1 droid that originates from the video game Jedi: Fallen Order. In the photo below, we can see the droid complete with the nameplate and the minifigure.

Even though this droid is quite detailed and looks similar with the BD-1 in-game, it has limited playability. The legs are detailed with the greebling design on the legs. It even has wires that reflect what we have seen on the droid's legs in the video games.

One of the limiting factor for playability is that this droid has limited poses. Mostly what can be posed is on the head. The joint between the neck to the head can be rotated which make the head able to tilt up or down in limited fashion. The head can also be tilted left and right. The head can not be fully rotated.

The joints of the legs that connect to the torso can be rotated though this feature is mostly used to increase or decrease the height of the droid. We can not pose the droid in walking fashion. When the rotational position of the legs are not similar, the droid will topple over. The legs can only be rotated in similar position to make it standing well.

When looking at the back of the droid, on the head, there are a number of 1x1 rounded Trans tiles with two different colours to represent the lights as seen in the video game. The designer of this set also put enough effort to make the back of the droid still detailed enough.

On the head section, the eyes on the left (when we face the droid) looks similar in the video games. It has the Trans blue colour. The eye on the right side does not look that similar though. Unfortunately, there are no special features on both eyes. On the side of the head, there is a slot that when opened will supply healing canisters. The antennae on both sides can be rotated in another direction.

The only sticker in this set is used on the nameplate. As usual, the nameplate contains the specification and information of the droid. There is a minifigure scale BD-1 droid supplied and place next to the nameplate.

Similar to what I have mentioned during my review of set 75335, the assembly booklet of this set is in white coloured cover. This make the booklet looks more exclusive while it also reduce the dark ink consumption as what The LEGO Group intended to be more environmental friendly.

    Building Experience

If you like LEGO Technic, then you will feel at home! The entire structural assembly of the droid utilise Technic parts. But to those of you like myself that don't like Technic, then you have to bear with it while assembling the droid.

    Parts

The part count is quite generous. I think this is the reason why this set looks like a replica of the BD-1 droid from the video game.

    Playability

Not much playability. Only limited posture available from the droid. Definitely for display with its near similarity as an exact replica.

    Value For Money

Well I get this set for free. But judging on the price per part, it seems quite reasonable for a licence set. Maybe because this set is for display purpose. As usual with my regular advice, try to buy set whenever there is a discount or promo if you can wait for it.
