    SENATE COMMANDOS!!!!!!!!!!!

Written by (KFOL) in United States,

This set is the best! When I had purchased this set a few years ago, I was super excited because I could finally get senate commandos in an affordable set. Back then, I could not really afford a my of the other sets senate commandos were in so I was happy. The packaging was the same as always. nothing new. The instructions were easy to follow. Parts were great, l loved the maroon red peices, however, back then I did not like stud shooters but they have now grown on me. Still not my favorite but they are fine. The turret was amazing! I loved the maroon blocks and I also thought the design was cool in general. The minifigures really are the best part of the set. There were three commandos and one commando captain. I was thrilled to be able to get these minifigures at a price I could afford. I personally love senate commandos and wish more had been done with them in the clone wars, so it was great that I could now have some to play with. A lot of people online day that Lego "ruined" the Senate commandos because they were so rare and limited, and now Lego made them common. That is actually why I was happy about this set. I could finally have some. It was just too bad for people that they no longer could brag about their commandos. This was a great move by Lego and a great set. I wish I bought a second so I can build a squad for my republic army. If you did not buy this set. You missed out. You should definitely figure out a way to get it on ebay. I have most of the battle packs from 2013 or later, and this may be the best. I love the Senate commandos.

Possibly the greatest battle pack of all time!

Written by (KFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

    Box/Instructions

Standard box, about a foot long or a little over that. A 28 page instruction manual is also included.

    Parts

It includes one of the most anticipated, if not the most anticipated pieces of the year in the fireable gatling gun. The gear piece turns in the back, turning the yellow piece that has a slight ridge that pops the blue studs off! It launches extremely far. It also includes some of the highly controversial blasters that actually blast.

    Minifigures

The minifigures are awesome! The commander is by far the best one with his white printing even though he's a traitor :D. The others are a major improvement from the old ones with leg printing and more detailed torso printing.

    The build

The build takes about 10 to 15 minutes since it's such a small set. The cool thing is that the vehicle can go up and down for better angles and better playability.

    The completed model

Great model! It is the best battle pack in the last 10 years, if not ever. The Endor Rebel pack comes close, however. :D I think that it is a really good price for the minifigures you get, and the vehicle!

    Overall opinion

I HIGHLY recommend this set! If you're short on cash but really want a Lego set, GO GET THIS ONE. Hours of fun are in store for kids, teenagers, and adults alike! Thanks for reading!

    Good set, good figures!

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

    Box/Instructions

The box is nothing new. Just the generic container for all the fun packed inside.

    Parts

The peices are unique, and the new guns are cool, but I prefer the more accurate looking guns of old.

    Mini figures

The mini figures are worth it and they relly do make the set. They added a new non-growling face for the captain. The normal commandos have a clone armor torso in a nice blue color. They also have a nice helmet mold. They look very accurate. The captain's printing is terrific, and you can really tell who's the boss. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have much variation in the heads, as they aren't clones, and it would have been cool if they made some kind of custom pauldron for the captain to represent his larger shoulder plate.

    The build

Very easy. Some cool parts, such as the stud launching Gatling gun on the cannon and the nice maroonish/ dark red colored pieces

    The completed model

I think it's a great set. I love the firing mechanism for the cannon. It's a nice little weapon. I don't know why, but It reminds me a little of the cannons that you see on the republic cruisers at the beginning space battle of episode III.

    Overall opinion

While senate commandos aren't a must-have, and it's an odd idea for a battle pack, I encourage people to get it, especially people with a large clone army, or if you have a lot of senators to guard.

Senate Commando Troopers: Protect the Senators!

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

    Introduction:

Many Star Wars battle packs have been produced over the years. Today, I want to review a distinct type of battle pack released in 2015. This battle pack includes troopers that made numerous appearances in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, ranging from tense encounters with Bounty Hunters in "Hostage Crisis" to protecting political prisoners in "Cloak of Darkness". And that battle pack is 75088: Senate Commando Troopers. This small battle pack includes Senate Commandos, a Senate Commando Captain, and a Blaster Turret.

But what exactly is the purpose of these blue troopers? There is more to find out below!

    Set Overview:

    Minifigures:

    Senate Commandos (x3)

Three Senate Commandos: Front, Back, and No Helmet View

The Senate Commandos are an elite division of the Galactic Republic's Senate Guard, tasked with protecting the Supreme Chancellor and the numerous members of the Galactic Senate. They act as security for the Galactic Senate building, as well as bodyguards and security detail for Senators and other important public officials both on and off Coruscant.

Lego does a great representation here. The armor is similar to Phase 1 Clone Trooper armor, except that it has a blue coloration typical of the Senate Guard. Their heads are common amongst many other trooper minifigures, including Stormtroopers, Clone Troopers, and First Order Troopers. Their unique helmets are the stand-out feature, having levels of ridges that descend from the crest at the top to their eyeline. Also, their Y-shaped visor distinguishes them from other trooper designs in Star Wars, being accurately translated into Lego. I personally would have preferred more accurate rifles instead of the stud-shooting blasters, but the ones included are better for playability.

All in all, I appreciate getting three of these figures within this battle pack.

    Senate Commando Captain (x1)

Senate Commando Captain FrontSenate Commando Captain No HelmetSenate Commando Captain Back

The Senate Commando Captain is the leader of a Commando squad. They are distinguished by the white markings incorporated all over their armor, including the seal of the Galactic Senate, known as the Great Galactic Seal.

In my research, this captain's design is actually based on a specific character: Captain Jayfon. In comparison to that character, this minifigure is somewhat accurate. The detailing of the armor that was replicated is the helmet's face pattern having consistent patterns above, below, and between the eyes; the torso with the chest pattern and the insignia running down the stomach; and the legs with the small knee marks. Where it starts to deviate is in a few areas: the crest of the helmet should be slightly larger and white, the back of the torso should have some white lines near the shoulders, the shins should have their curved-in white stripes, and the arms should have unique white prints with the left arm having the seal of the Galactic Senate.

Since this figure is not stated to be Captain Jayfon and is more representative of a generic Senate Commando captain, I cut the design some slack. I do enjoy the design for what it did, and I think this captain works as a generic Senate Commando captain. That being said, I would have liked to see some generic white arm printing to further designate that this is the captain. And also perhaps some deviation away from Captain Jayfon's design, which, as I pointed out, has more intricate detail.

Also interesting to note that the head for this figure is slightly more unique than the other ones, and, throughout Lego's history, has only been used with a few other minifigures.

    Set Build:

    Blaster Turret

    Blaster TurretBlaster Turret Manned Back

The Blaster Turret included with this set is not a specific Star Wars vehicle or ordnance, but it does manage to represent the common Republic Red (dark red) used throughout the Galactic Republic, which I appreciate. This has great playability with the 6-barrel stud shooter (operated using the gear in the back) and the seat for a Senate Commando ready to take on any imposing threat. The weapon holster is an added bonus, but I hope no one sneaks up on him while he's unarmed!

    Extras:

    Alternate Build:

Alternate Build: Speeder & Command Center with Radar Dish

Since most battle packs are more focused on the minifigures for army building, the pieces of the builds can be used to make alternative models. After some experimenting, I created this alternate build using every piece from the core set except the 6-barrel drum stud shooter. I imagine this as a small mobile version of the Forward Command Center combined with an offensive speeder.

If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to experiment yourself and see what you can come up with!

    Complementary Sets:

The Senate Commandos are mostly located on the planet Coruscant, so any set that includes elements of Coruscant is a good pair with this one, such as 9526: Palpatine's Arrest or 75354: Coruscant Guard Gunship. Other sets that include Senators such as Padme Amidala would make sense to pair this set with.

    Overall Conclusion:

Overview of Entire Set: Manned Blaster Turret with Senate Commandos Talking

Overall, this set is a great buy if you are a fan of the Galactic Republic and its different types of units. I got 2 of these sets while they were still in stores for $12.99 each, but nowadays, the price can range from $25-$30 used to $35-$50 new (2024 prices). Either way, the build is nice but not that important, so if you want this for the figures, I recommend looking for the figures as a separate purchase. Thanks for reading my review, and remember: keep those Senators safe! (They are always getting into trouble!)
