A nice blacksmith set for a good price!

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in Finland,

The Blacksmith getting bullied by a nasty Dragon knight makes for a nice scene.

    Pros

    • The minifigs are good. Not too many other Kingdoms "civilians" around, so any you get your hands on is a nice to get!
    • Extra equipment. The extra weapons are "Heroica"-style, but usable. Especially nice is the extra plate armor. It doesn't have the colors of either Lions or Dragons, but as such can be used by both, or even with older Castle sets.
    • A quite nice assortment of parts in general given the low price of the set!
    • Turning the waterwheel moves the hammer. I'm not sure if there's much use for the feature, but there it is.

    Cons

    • The bow from the extra weapon sets looks pretty poor, but that's a really small nitpick.

Overall a nice solid set for a nice price. I recommend it to all Castle/Kingdoms fans.

    Fantastic minifig weapons!

    Written by (AFOL) in Canada,

This is a great little set and is a must-have add-on for a castle set.

    Parts

The best thing about this set is the unique weapons which include a short sword (which looks like the Master Sword from Legend of Zelda), mace, double-headed axe (which is a single piece, not two blades on a stick as with other sets), iron bow, and a billhook. Some other great parts include a pail with a swiveling handle, a chicken, a gold crystal, and a fantastic dark grey breastplate (which looks like hematite). Definitely a great set for minifig accessories.

    Minifigures

A double-faced blacksmith (smiling and mean) and a dark knight are present in this set. The knight has the newer great helm, which is cool.

    The build

Being a small set, the build is pretty straightforward. One thing I really enjoyed was the way the trip hammer is "revealed" during the build: you start with an anvil with a dagger on it, then you add a levered hammer and you think "ah, you can animate the hammer by pressing down on the other end of the lever", then you add the cam and think "cool, i can just spin this rod and make the hammer go up and down", and finally you add the water wheel to the camshaft and the logic of the model all falls into place.

    The completed model

The completed model is nice and compact. As mentioned earlier, it would make a great addition to a larger castle set, or as part of a medieval village. I think the addition of a horse for the dark knight would have been nice, however.

    Summary

This is a fantastic set and definitely worth the money, if for no other reason than the whole slew of unique weapons you get with it.

The 3rd Blacksmith set, a must have set !

Written by (AFOL , rhodium-rated reviewer) in Netherlands,

Overall rating 5 stars: the follow up for 6040 and the bigger 3739-1 is a must have set for the Castle collector and kids who like to just play with it. It is complete, fun to play with and affordable. Here are 5 stars well deserved.

Building experencience 4 stars: easy to built with a nice feature, the moveable hammer with the waterwheel. Nice little strong building with a good moveable roof. Good for both the adult collector and the junior Legofan.

Parts a big 5 stars: great unique Blacksmith minifigure and a huge amount of new small weapons. Great small details like the bucket and the chicken, the Dragon Knight as can be expected. Nothing missing or to wish for really. Very nice colour scheme too.

Playability 5 stars: you can play just with the Blacksmith working or as the set is called, the attack of the evil Dragon Knight.

Value for money 5 stars: a very complete set with new features which can be used with every Castle scene or by itself for a price of only €8,95 deserves even more than 5 stars. Well done this time LEGO !!

    Great Value!

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

Cool set! Lets get to the pros and cons

    Pros

    • Pro 1 Cool parts, weapons are fantastic the macish thing is bendable along with the scythe but its fun to swing around
    • Pro 2 The figures are detailed and the blacksmith has all new parts even printed legs. The dragon knight has so and so parts and old face
    • Pro 3 The playability is great by itself due to the vast amount of real/impromptu weapons and is increased exponentially with other sets
    • Pro 4 Its one of the best deals I've seen in a while, mostly sets are overpriced but this one seems just right with its price, the value is incredible
    • Pro 5 The new pieces are fantastic, including the 10 weapons and armour. the chicken is cool also
    • Pro 6 The water wheel works well and is a cool feature, along with the new water wheel piece
    • Pro 7 The hut and stand is a sturdy construction and looks very nice

    Cons

    • Con 1 Minor Con but, What's with the chicken?
    • Con 2 Dragon knight doesn't have new parts

Great set! well worth the price and with new parts it's worth buying, One of the best deals I've seen in a while

Great addition to the castle line

Written by (TFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in Australia,

When I saw this I knew it would be good. It has everything you need for a blacksmith and a few extras. And it has a chicken.

    Box/instructions

Has the new box art showing a stone wall that goes over a bridge. It also shows 7946 Kings Castle in the background. The instructions are clear and straightfoward with no complicated bits that confuse you.

    Minifigures

The minifigures are really showing the quality that lego puts into them these days. The blacksmith is very nicely detailed with lots of manly facial and chest hair. He is wearing an appropiate dark brown apron and black gloves and looks just like a blacksmith should look. The dragon knight is also well detailed but with the chainmail with plate armour has been in many other sets although this one has a different face showing a scowly look.

    Parts

There is a really good parts range in this set. It comes with extra weapons that look really cool and a dark tan coloured chicken. There is a good use of parts used to build the water wheel and the furnace. I also like the anvil which can hold a weapon.

    The build

The build is easy, straightfoward and will take about half an hour. No interesting techniques are used.

    The completed model

Is great. It looks really good and will function well in any castle theme or medieval village. The weapons look really good on the rack and the furnace looks cool too. I especially like the water wheel feature that when you spin itthe hammer goes up and down onto the anvil as if it were making a sword.

    Summary

If you like blacksmiths or medieval villages or the castle theme this set is for you. I highly recommend it.
