    Lego Steve's Review

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

Now we come to some of the bigger sets, this one was a limited release and actually sold very quickly in England. The set lacks a baseplate (which is a real shame) but was very cheap for its size and included a lot of nice ideas.

If you remember back to 1996 when they had the shipwreck set and I said how it just looked stupid, well here we have something similar, but the set is good. The tower on the right is perfect and the cabin though small is still really nice (the corroded ribs of the hull look good too), and the imperials also get an officer (they only came in the bigger sets).

I am not such a fan of the traps they included (some skulls to drop down a hole and a scythe type thing) but then again the set is aimed at children so playability has to be included. Give this set a baseplate and I would rate it up there with the old Imperial Outpost or Lagoon Lock Up, a very nice set.

Da Secret Fort......(Yes, spelt it wrong on purpose)

Written by (TFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

We get a cannon, a parrot, a fish, a skeleton.a crab, and two snakes. Anyways, the hideout is amazing! The pirates can completley crush the soldiers without being spotted! Very very very roomy. I got this set about Christmas two years ago. The cannon fires FAR, seriously far. The bridge piece is VERY nice. Now, how could the two scouting soldiers defeat three hidden and ready pirates? Without other sets, the soldiers are demolished. Onto the pros and cons!

    Pros:

    • Five figs! Three pirates and two soldiers.
    • Girl Pirate!
    • AWESOME HIDEOUT!
    • Cannon fires far
    • Cool bridge piece!
    • All the traps work well!

    Cons:

    • Like I mentioned, the soldiers are gonna get demolished with only two of them and three ready and ready to trap them and only two of them!
    • Again, only two soldiers!
    • Same Brickbeard from 4 other sets..

Well, that's it! :P. If you didn't buy this, then it's alright, there will be more limited-edition AWESOME sets! :).

  • Yo-ho-ho and a treasure of bricks!

Written by (Unspecified) in United States,

"This a great booty for any Pirate fans of Legos.

First this set is as filled with traps and adventure fun as the Indiana Jones series. These traps include a swinging sword area, a hidden cache with rolling skeleton heads, and a flipping bridge. The main hideout is ship cabin with a nice door, windows and a table. The bridge links the cabin to a ship mast and lookout. Those great features make this Pirate set a step above the rest. It is lots of fun both to build and play with and there an infinite way to re-arrange the traps and the various parts of the hideouts.

Another great treasure comes from the huge variety of rare and special pieces and the awesome minifigs. Any lego sea rover will love the shipmast with a lookout area, steering wheel, ship rib pieces, jolly roger and redcoat flags, boat dinghies and a bridge in one piece, as well as all the pirate-related weapons (3 rifles, 3 swords and 2 guns) and tons of accessories.

The minifigs are really beautiful especially Brickbeard (the lego pirate captain). Brickbeard is just awesome-looking with his peg leg, hook hand, and eyepatch. He wears a really nice captain costume and a hat with a jolly roger. There is also a female pirate (with an eyepatch as well), a regular pirate crew, a redcoat officer with a tricorn hat, a redcoat soldier with a tall hat and a skeletion. All minifigs are printed both front and back and are very detailed!

Lego Pirates sets are a bit pricey but they are as nice looking and full of details as Lego Castle and as much fun as Indiana Jones sets so they are really worth it; and the Shipwreck hideout is really the best deal of the series for the fun and the money.

Arrr! Mateys! This is a pirate life for everyone!"

  • One of my favorite sets

Written by (Unspecified) in United States,

I just put this together and it is really great, I love the piratey feel of the set. My favorite thing about the pirate sets is how well they fit together. There is a small indent in the side of the loot island (which I also picked up today) baseplate and the front of this ship fits in perfectly making it look like the ship crashed on the island.

    Pros:
    Pirate Wench :D
    Cool Design
    Awesome traps and special parts
    Fun to play with

    Cons:
2 soldiers verses 3 pirates and a dead skeleton who are fully armed with guns, swords, a cannon and traps is a bit unfair (Needs at least 1 more soldier or a cannon or something)
