Favorite Minifigures on the Go.
Set #5004914 Armor Pod: Last year LEGO introduced the Pod style of Polybag. A small collectible hard plastic carrying case with a single Minifigure and accessories to go with it. Many Themes received these pods, for Nexo Knights we have the Armor Pod.
This is still a Polybag style item, so we’re going to cover the pros and cons of the item in question before giving our final thoughts.
Pros:
-
Great print elements for the Pod pieces as well as the Minifigure.
-
Cheap way to get a great or favorite character from one of your favorite LEGO themes.
-
Clever new play and collect pattern for kids and folks who enjoy displaying their Minifigures in interesting ways.
-
Unique NEXO Power and Clay Minifigure included.
Cons:
-
Limited potential for building.
-
Limited potential for including in other LEGO displays, though clever MOC and parts re-users will definitely find some way to use these new parts.
-
Price when not given away as a free gift is a bit high considering the Pod inflates the costs of a typical Minifigure which is less than a Polybag.
-
Play factors also limited without other sets to bring this character into the other one.
Overall opinion
This isn’t a bad new item from LEGO, as long as it’s a free gift with purchase. Five dollars or more for this item is a bit of a letdown though. Mostly because the Pod itself cannot attach anything to it on the outside, it’s more designed to slip it into a pocket or backpack and carry your favorite Minifigure with some accessories to your friend’s house to play with friends.
Can I recommend this set? I think if you’re looking for something unique and fun to display and collect I’d definitely say not to overlook these fun little items, but be aware that they will cost a lot now on the secondary market, especially for The LEGO Batman Movie pod, which is a huge factor to consider since there is a limited amount you can do with the parts included here. Mildly recommended with caution to be aware of the price.
