Big old fashioned truck, great points

Written by (Unspecified , silver-rated reviewer) in Netherlands,

This is the big truck from the late 1960s. Cabin and truck are the same as all sets from that period. Special is that the colour scheme is yellow, while most trucks from that date are in red. The transport part is big and has two doors on each side and two doors on the rear. This makes the storage compartment very accessible. Tires are still in grey and the truck hasn’t got the headlights yet that the sets of the early 1970s have. Minus point: the grey plates. That gives this set a rather old fashioned look, and that is exactly what it does to me, it takes me 40 years back. The truck has one big plus compared to the 6 stud wide trucks from nowadays set range: it has a steering wheel. This adds much to the playability of the set. So, all in all, 5 out of 5.

    Very Nice Set

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

This set has been part I my LEGO collection for a very long time, and is still one of my favorites. Even though this set is almost 50 years old, I still have all the instructions and pieces, and have used all the different bricks to make many different things. Although the HUGE grey plates both split in two in my truck, they can be still be used to make anything. For me they usually end up being paths and streets. The clear bricks, doors, and yellow bricks are all very versatile, and are very great pieces to any collection. I only have one problem with this set, and it is that 47 years ago, it came with two left-hand side doors, instead of one left and one right for the rear of the truck. (I wonder if customer service would still replace them :) )

All in all, this set provided hours of fun, and many play possibilities. Even though this set is not very new, it is still always a staple vehicle in any town I make.

The BIG model of its day

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in Australia,

Those big grey plates were an amazing addition to a Lego collection in their day - nothing else came close and they could be used for any building, as wings, as bridges.

The first HoG steering I owned was also a revelation - to be able to learn how to reverse a semi. I still have every single piece of this truck, though the steering mount on the cab's base plate is cracked and one of the huge trailer plates is split in two. I LOVED this model.
