    Great set, better minifig

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

The set is great for any collection. The digger itself isn't great but nonetheless it has a front tipper and a back hoe with articulation. This era of sets irritated me that all the extras, e.g. the rubble and the signs couldn't be carried in one go which I felt made it less realistic. That said, I would be complaining if they weren't included!!

The outstanding element (literally) to this set is the minifig's blue hard hat. It is the only set that Lego made with this colour. I don't know why they did but that is exactly why I love this set!

    31 years old yet timeless

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

One of the most stylish sets in the 12v (or golden) era of Lego trains. It always formed part of my town build up and was fantastic with the lights off to watch the white (much better than yellow) headlights and red brakelights whizzing round the track.

It comes up A LOT on eBay and is good value, I have three copies and 5 extra centre carriages.

One criticism is the minifigs who are a little dull; I appreciate this is pre mega details minifigs but it's a little dull. That said, the cowboy hat is a nice touch and a chef is always a treat from this 1980s era.

The alternate set was a bit disappointing but with a little imagination this became many versions of the main model.

I got this for my birthday in 1987 I think and was so so so excited.

One thing that has always stuck with me with all the Lego trains is the use of DB stickers. Lego always badged up in the adverts and cataloges with DB which is probably why I chose to but growing up in England I never used the British Rail stickers.

  • The best 12v structure

Written by (Unspecified , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

This is my favorite 12v set. I had the 7745 express train first so it didn't really tie in well to my collection. But having purchased 2 x 7735 freight train it goes well now.

The wagons are easy to buy individual pieces and build multiple copies, hence I have 5 and 10 containers for this set!

The colours are great and it is multi-directional move wise. There is nothing I would have changed.

First foray into 6 brick wide trucks

Written by (Unspecified , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

This was my first leap into the unknown of the 6 wide trailer and 4/5 wide tractor unit and I wasn't disappointed...

The detail on this set is great, everything was thought out and neat, except...

I never liked the way that the back door on the trailer shut. It was neat when open, yet when closed looked a bit of a mess.

Other than that I love this set. It was one of the first that I got that had minifigs with different expressions (other than the pirates).

    Best colour scheme

Written by (Unspecified , bronze-rated reviewer) in United Kingdom,

I can still remember getting this set - I had/have an obsession with trucks and loved it. The colour scheme was brilliant which included the doors - which then made a number of re-appearances (as well as the colour scheme).

I loved the lowloader style trailer with the smaller tyres and the step down.
