    A Great Set Across Ages

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

This was one of the surprisingly few sets I had as a child, and it was hands down one of my favorites. I would spend hours meticulously building the field, and days playing with it. It holds just as much joy for me now.

Now that I'm older, the build was much easier, and surprisingly simple, given how much I remember struggling with it. The part that stuck out to me was flipping the field over to add the supporting elements, and then back to keep moving forward- it always seemed to fall apart. No such trouble now, which leads me to think maybe my hands were just too small to really support it.

While it is pretty quick and easy, I'm impressed with how well the build comes out. It's a very nice little field, and other sets let it be expanded and enhanced to give a real, rounded experience.

One of the obvious perks is the absolute playability of the set. It works very well- the players are on spring mounts, letting them "kick" the ball to each other, and the goalies can move back and forth and even dive to block the ball.

One downside is the lack of variety in the minifigures. Each team has the same six players and the same numbers. Three of these six have the generic "smile" face, and two are identical.

Overall, though the set is simple, it's good. The build isn't the best, but the end result is fun a delightful example of what Lego can do.

    An Excellent Investment

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

I'm a huge roller coaster fan, so I was very excited for this set. I ended up loving it more than I expected to, though ultimately for different reasons.

There are three main builds along with several smaller side builds and a total of four mini-dolls. It would have been nice if another figure or two was included to fill up the area a little more, as it is a little sparse with three times more ride seats than people.

The side builds offer some nice little additions and character. There's a popcorn cart, rounding out the park's food offerings offered in other sets, and a small dining area in which to enjoy it all. There's also the turnstile at the entrance and an information stand, which adds to the feeling of a complete park.

The first of the major builds is the roller coaster, which was actually probably my least favorite of the three rides. It's a simple oval track with a hill up and a hill down. There are several features along the way which the cars interact with, which admittedly is not very realistic, but adds some interest. It would, of course, be nice if the cars were powered rather than having to be pushed along, but even so it looks nice and provides some fun features.

The second ride is the drop tower. You can push the car to the top and it spirals down. It also includes a camera to snap a photo of the riders. It's a pretty simple build with a really cool end result. There's nice attention to detail with things like the restraint bars. There are some minor issues- if you take the car all the way to the top, it gets stuck and needs to be nudged back down (though this actually works well to create a moment of suspense by holding the car at the top before dropping it.) As with the other rides, I was afraid of having the figures fall out, but they stayed secure through the whole drop.

Finally, there is the Ferris Wheel. This is a quite repetitive build, as there are two sides with lots of studs, and there are six cars which are all one of two very similar builds. It's a little harder to fit the figures into the cars, but they do fit. And while it was a bit frustrating to build, the wheel looks great and functions well.

Overall, I love this set. It offers a nice time commitment and excellent value. Kids can definitely get hours of play from the rides, and it makes a good display for older builders.

    Great Durability

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

There is admittedly not much to this set, as it's one of the smaller ones in the line. There is an ice cream cart, which adds a simple but nice touch. Next is a photo booth with an attached camera. I haven't yet put the stickers on, and I suspect it would look much better with them. Overall, though, there's really not much to say about the side builds.

The main feature is, of course, the space ride itself. The build is quick and a bit repetitive, especially with building the rocket cars, but they're easy and fast enough that I didn't really mind.

I was worried that the ride would not really work, but was definitely wrong. My first instinct to test my fear was to violently spin the ride with a mini-doll seated in it. And it worked brilliantly. The figure stayed perfectly in place rather than flying out as I expected. The arms work as intended, with the ships lifting at higher angles as the speed increased.

This set is a perfect depiction of a classic ride, and I couldn't be happier with it.

    A Real Mini-Arcade

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

I was never really interested in the Friends line, but got this set because I love amusement parks and wanted the whole theme. I wasn't expecting much, given that it was a small set, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

The build is pretty simple and can get repetitive with things like assembling the targets, but it's quick and there's enough variety between the three games to keep it sufficiently interesting. There is only one mini-doll, which is reasonable for such a small set.

The real feature here is the playability of the set. Its nice that it looks good, but its even better that it plays well. Each of the games is fully functioning. The frog game is the least interesting, as you just press a lever to make the frog appear and disappear and hit it with a mallet when it is raised- this could be more of a challenge with two people. The other two games can be played solo and feature more of a challenge. The shooting gallery in the middle allows you to aim for the targets and knock them over using launched studs. Finally, there is the basketball game, which is pretty self-explanatory. The games offer a nice challenge and were surprisingly fun.

For such a small, simple set, this one packs a good punch. I was hesitant about this one, but was quickly blown away.

    Amazing for Minifigs

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

I wanted this set since I first learned of it, and I have no regrets about purchasing it, even if it is a little pricey for the piece count.

The overall scene is fantastic. There are tons of details put into the design, from a hot dog bun at the food cart to a bucket for the painter. And everything is highly versatile- there is infinite possibility for storytelling or even just different arrangements to shake things up and make a new display.

There are some features as well. The merry-go-round is very cool, and the soccer goal is a nice touch as well. The stroller is wonderfully thought out, and easily one of my favorite parts of the set. And, of course, there is the much-talked-about wheelchair, which is absolutely amazing. It is well-designed, perfectly functional, and a great element to have added.

The main feature of the set is the variety of minifigures. There are 10 "adults," 4 "kids," and a baby. Each one has unique clothes, accessories, and faces, with a few double-sided heads. Aside from the fact that there are already a bunch of amazing characters, the instructions specifically call attention to the fact that there are a huge number of possible combinations and encourage mixing-and-matching to create new ones. And I have to acknowledge the baby figure, which is a great little addition and absolutely adorable. I love this one and hope to keep seeing it in sets.

Overall, this is a great, unique buy. It's a quick and easy build, but there is huge potential with this set for coming up with new ideas and really making it your own, which is a great feature we don't always see, especially to this degree.
