A remarkable model of an iconic car, but not without its minor flaws

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

First things first, this is my favourite Speed Champions vehicle, yet, and one that I was greatly anticipating. I grew up in the 1980s, and while I always preferred the gentler lines of the Porsche 911, the Countach was easily the sharpest looking sports car on the scene (sorry, Ferrari). This 8-wide rendition does the original justice, looks great on the shelf and is super fun to vroom around the room with my 4-year-old son.

We own 7 of the old 6-wide Speed Champions cars, and while they will always have a place on the streets of our LEGO city, the 3 newer 8-wide models that we have are vastly superior. As others have noted, they have evolved from somewhat basic toys to (still playable) scale replicas. As mentioned above, the 911 is my "favourite" (seriously, the checker won't let me spell this correctly?) sports car, but the 8-wide Countach is so much better than its 6-wide 911 cousin as to not be in the same competition. For example, the scale has allowed the SC designers to use building techniques that rival anything in the Creator Expert/Modular Buildings series. The technique that is used to create the bodywork behind this Countach's cockpit is amazing.

But it also creates a weird protrusion on either side that bothers me from a head-on view, and that is one of only two complaints that I have with 76908. The other is with its overall scale/accuracy - namely, that it is too long. Using the 8-stud width as a starting point, the real Countach was just under 80 inches wide, meaning that each stud scales to just about 10 inches. 76908 is approximately 19 studs long, which means that it should equate to a real life vehicle that measured nearly 190 inches. But the Countach was about 162 inches long, with a 96-inch wheelbase. So an accurate model would be 16-17 studs long with a 10-stud wheelbase (rather than the 11-stud wheelbase on 76908). Now, all of that being said, I am not a Speed Champions designer and have not tried to improve upon this model by shortening it, and that may just not be possible. So for what it is, 76908 approaches perfection (I dinged it in the "Parts" category because of the awful cockpit printing/color matching).

In conclusion, I enjoyed building it, it looks great, and it makes for a fun toy. It has a nice PPP, if that's your thing, and absolutely feels like it's worth the $20 RRP. Oh yeah, it has a minifgure too, which is always great for the minifig bin. I give 76908 Lamborghini Countach five stars and a solid score of 93/100. Cheers!

    My favorite non-licensed minifigure . . . ever?

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

The "Ancient Warrior" has it all. Awesome cultural references. A great colour scheme combining dark red and medium azure (?) to striking effect. Two useful expressions. Printing EVERYWHERE. Excellent accessories, including the macuahuitl (a wooden club studded with obsidian blades), an amazing headdress and a lovely new shield for the consummate shield collector. The Ancient Warrior represents, looks cool and is a perfect army builder. Now I just need to find the Aztec Warrior from Series 7. . . .

    Shockingly better than expected!

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

I was very underwhelmed by the online images of this Looney Tunes CMF series, yet I have a habit of buying at least one random CMF every time I visit our local LEGO store. So ... now, our family has a Tweety Bird and a Road Runner. And they are MUCH better looking "in the brick" and actually rather fun to own!

I decided to write a review of Road Runner, in particular, because of the fantastic accessory parts that come packaged with the minifigure (who looks SO much less awkward IRL). The flame yellow "popcorn/icecream" piece can be a number of things, and the sand green bowl is AMAZING. I am, admittedly, a sand green parts junkie.

Even the minifigure parts could be used for minifig MOCs or in other interesting ways. For example, RR's head plume would be perfect for a custom knight's helmet, and the tail would be a perfect "cartoony" splash of water, or of course it could be used for a more realistic looking bird sculpture. In fact, the more that I think about it, the more I want to buy multiples of this "set" for just those uses.

Overall, I was expecting this to be a 2/5, but for the above reasons, it's a 5/5 for me.

Parts + Playability = (Near) Perfection

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

I just finished building this and 10758: T. Rex Breakout with our son and daughter, ages 3 and 4 respectively. The 3-year-old handled the Juniors T.Rex set and had a blast. The 4-year-old assembled Baryonyx, the minifigures and some scenery, and then started plotting out a narrative for everyone. I built the vehicle.

My daughter enjoyed assembling, disassembling and reassembling both Baryonyx and the landscaping. Baryonyx may not be completely accurate (until we invent time travel, no one will design an accurate toy dinosaur), but it is attractive, imposing and full of articulation. If folks ever ask why a LEGO dinosaur might be "better" than an ordinary toy dinosaur, the answer might often lie in the articulation. I had a good time with the vehicle, since its construction was a departure from LEGO's endless stream of off-roaders. It is nice and wide at 8 studs and deploys lots of bars and clips. The various builds were fun to work on in tandem.

We bought this set mainly for the parts, including Baryonyx, of course, but also the dog element. The recolored husky mold looks just like our much-loved and now departed chow chow. To be honest, I would have paid full price for this set just for the dog (yes, we know about Bricklink!). The off-roader also happens to include some very useful parts for a MOC that we are working on (first generation Ford Bronco in US Forest Service livery). Sand green!

This set very easily checks the playability boxes for both our children: dinosaur, minifigures, dog and vehicle. Played with in that order. An additional dinosaur would make it even more perfect, so that two children can both ROAR at the same time, but that's why we also built up 10758. As a major bonus, we often read about Baryonyx in our various dinosaur books, and the kids were very excited to reenact some fishing scenarios.

This is not a cheap set, but it can presently be found for the usual 20 percent discount on Amazon. At $48, it is more than worth it. Between the dinosaur, the dog and the sand green parts, I would pay LEGO's price if necessary. In fact, I could imagine 75935 as a set that I would buy for a mark-up after it's retired (if we didn't already own it, or if one of the kids destroys Baryonyx).

All in all, I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Jurassic Park/World theme or dinosaurs in general.

    Shazam polybag available with Blu-Ray

Written by (AFOL , bronze-rated reviewer) in United States,

This is another fine DC Universe minifigure.

The parts and printing are high quality. The source material is well represented. Shazam's grin, in particular, seems suitable.

The figure is hardly exclusive, since it just swaps the white hood from 76120: Batwing and The Riddler Heist for a relatively common wig.

For those who want to own it, you can also purchase the "Shazam: Magic and Monsters" Blu-Ray + DVD combo pack with polybag included for $18 from Amazon. I actually found it on sale for $10 a week ago, with free two-day Prime shipping. Since the polybag alone goes for $16 on BrickLink in the US, that's not a bad deal!
