Big set alert! Either one of these would be a substantial set in its own right. I'm rather impressed that LEGO actually sold them together as a single set.

And we never once got the AT-OT in the Clone Wars show. What a missed opportunity to show it in action when it's just in the background of a couple shots of Revenge of the Sith.
There's also alternate noseart stickers of a Wampa Head, which looks pretty cool, matches the colors of the set which are reminiscent of the blue Gunship from Volume Two of the 2D Microseries, although I want to say that this LEGO-fied clone ripping the head off a droid is based on actual noseart from Clone Wars. I don't remember if it was on a Dropship though. Don't remember seeing Wampa head ever, but I think it's the cooler option for the the noseart.

You'd be lucky to get one ship that size at that price these days...

The biggest Lego set I owned until recently with my purchase of 75313

I asked for it for my Birthday that year, literally the only thing I wanted. Spent hours transporting the included AT-OT & my AT-TE around the house. Impressive interior technic frame build, stayed together through numerous combat deployments. :)

I *loved* that this set was compatible with the AT-TE from the previous year. I never got my hands on either of them, but interconnectablity between sets like that is always cool!

It’s even compatible with 8098

Wow, you're right! I never knew that!

This set is crazy expensive on Bricklink, but I was thinking it would be fun to try parting it out sometime

And 7679. It technically is in The Clone Wars sub-theme, even though it never appeared in the show. Should be in the EU/Legends sub-theme. I think Hasbro made a Republic Fighter Tank about the same time as well.

By in United States,

The year this launched, Brickworld Chicago had a LEGO booth where you could build any set that hadn’t been claimed yet, and they’d put the completed model in a display case for the weekend. Afterwards, they raffled off the models. I won this one, but I still haven’t looked inside the (completely trashed) box to see what condition it’s in.

$250 for less than 1800 pieces? Lego has gotten so greedy, nobody will buy this, everything is so expensive nowadays.

Yoda: "Begun, the Clone Wars has."

Anakin: "Which one? the 2D micro-series, or the 3D CGI show?"

Yoda: "Difficult to say, this issue is. Always in motion the future is..."

Anakin: "It's not that difficult. You just need to use fast forward on the remote..."

Yoda: "Careful you must be, young Skywalker. For once you start down the spoiler path, forever will it dominate your destiny..."

Anakin (looking ahead, to the future): "In about ten years, they grant me the council seat, but not the rank of master? It's so unfair!"

Yoda: "Listen to me, you did not.... Told you, I did!"

By in Turkey,

Impressive size. I would be the happiest kid if I had it when I was younger. Today, I think about the space it would take to store, or the warzone I have to create and most of fall the economy to cerate that scene. Growing up sucks...

Hmmm, this reminds be a bit of 6933. A ship and vehicle combo, but 6933 has it backwards. The vehicle carries the ship.

By in Australia,

As luck would have it I picked one of these up yesterday to replace the one I sold off six years ago. Can't wait to rekindle the memory of seeing it for the fist time in Billund during a factory tour.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sure you can find it on Bricklink or eBay, but can you recommend a mortgage lender?

Actually, no. Adjusted for inflation, the price of this set would be $350 today, or 19 cents per piece. That's not what most Lego sets cost these days, even licensed sets like Star Wars.

By in United States,

When I chose to seek out parts for this set and build my own rather than pay over $1000 for one, I do not regret any second of the painful process of finding the pieces. It's just missing the stickers and a few pieces on the left wing are black instead of white, but it is such a fun set to display and play with (yes, my 20 y.o. AFOL-ish self still plays battles frequently, no shame.)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Surprising that it's fewer than 1800 pieces. But for the allure of owning the original kit, looks like it wouldn't be too hard to piece together, with some substitutions such as the printed dishes.

By in United States,

I saw it when I was a kid and as a huge fan of the Clone Wars era, I had to have it. I worked to get it by collecting golf balls in the woods, cleaning them up, and selling them back to golfers. After selling quite a few, I searched Ebay for any gift cards I could buy for cheaper than their monetary value and I found a $250 Lego gift card for $200. And that's how I was able to afford it at the time.

It's the crown jewel of my collection.

By in United Kingdom,

I wanted this for so long and was so happy when I finally managed to get it for a reasonable price a couple of years back. They’re both great vehicles, the dropship is really sturdy and swooshable despite being so elongated and the AT-OT is great as a kind of big military flatbed!

By in United States,

Love the nose art. And I believe the language translates to "Laugh This Off"

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Absolutely smegging awesome set.
So sad I missed it.
And I'm not even a Clone Wars fan. But this is a behemoth of a set, grandiose.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I bought this on discount in May 2010 but was too scared to show my wife at the time, so I have still never opened the box.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Granade throwing, beginner course. Walkers are silly, and the AT-OT is silly².
The dropship is cool, though.

By in Australia,

You're all going to hate me for this: but this set is kind of overrated. I'm just not the biggest fan of the early Clone Wars sets (even though the series is one of my favourites of all time), they're mostly too bulky and the minifigures aren't that great with the 'anime eyes' as I call them. The clones are an exception to this with their helmets on, but even then I was never that interested in this set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wasn't the AT-OT actually super fragile? Any owners who can enlighten me on this?

@PurpleDave. What is it with you and casually mentioning you own some rare, expensive or old MISB thing and not even bothering to check it out? Especially when reading about all those people who absolutely love theirs. Did they glue the model for display?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Even as a kid this set didn't really interest me. The only thing that caught my attention was the Minifigures. I think that's because I wasn't allowed to buy the clone walker battlepack, and I still wanted the regs. I find the nose art cool and the drop ship functionality nice, but I just don't think it's worth the price.

@Binnekamp:
These were one-time display models. Billund shipped one copy each of most of the then-current or soon-to-be-released product line to Chicago, and convention attendees could go to the LEGO booth and ask for any set. If it was still sealed, they’d bring it out to you so you could build it, and then it went in a display case for the rest of the convention. After the convention ended, they raffled every set off (every attendee received one free raffle ticket in their convention package). When I went up to collect it, there was a large tear in the box. They had clearly removed chunks of the model until it was small enough to cram into the box. There was a Slave I and the SP3 Lunar Limo that had not yet been released that had Boba Fett and Brick Daddy stolen from them before they even made it into the display cases, so there’s a good chance at least one minifig is missing from my copy. I didn’t get to apply the stickers, so I have no idea if they were neatly applied or if they look like a toddler rubbed them in dirt and slapped them on, nor do I know if the rest of the sticker sheet or the instructions made it into the box. Parts may have been broken when it was shoved into the box. It was free, at a time when I wanted the set but couldn’t really afford it, but it’s Schroedinger’s LEGO set. As long as I don’t actually examine it, everything could be there and in good condition. If I look, I might feel compelled to start fixing stuff. There are other things that are much higher on my priority list (like getting Home Alone ready to display at the DSO’s Home Alone concert in three weeks). And this is one of those things that, the longer I push it off, more I can afford to fix anything that’s missing/damaged, but the less affordable it becomes at the same time, so I don’t really make up any ground.

As for why I post this stuff, it’s the story I have to tell regarding the set we’ve been presented with. It’s on-topic, and just as relevant as one person saying it’s their favorite set ever, or another person saying they absolutely despise the model. Or would you rather I go off topic and tell you how, on the way home from setting up a display we have going at a charity event, I ended up jump-starting some random stranger’s car so he could get his family home?

By in United States,

Definitely one of the most mythical and notorious LSW sets ever. Super overpriced, kind of overrated, but a fascinating set nonetheless. I was smart enough to bite the bullet and buy one while they were out.

I think my biggest complaint is that the dropship's neck still flexes slightly too much when you lift it, and separates the outer bricks. It's a problem I've been working on for years.

My favorite feature is being able to use the same docking mechanism on the dropship with the AT-TE and the Turbo Tank that were out around the same time. That cross-compatibility is super, super neat and something you don't see everyday.

As for this set. Must-have additions in my opinion are a couple extra 6 x 8 wedge pieces so you can swap out the nose art easily, plus like 3 or 4 battle packs to fill all the seats on the AT-OT. When it's fully loaded it looks awesome.

It is still in my wishlist, has been for years now, even if I know that I will probably never put my hands (and bucks!) on it. But I really, really wish I could.

By in United States,

This is a great set, wish I had a second. I bought mine later, 2009 was deep in the dark ages, but still think I spent more on this set than any other non-promo set I have and that was 3 or 4 years ago. Super fun though, super sturdy and do wish I had a second set but the space is an issue.

I want this set so badly; missed my chance to get it due to being a bit too young and now you're looking at over £550 for a used one from what I've seen. Sad times :'(
