Quick look: 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader

Posted by ,

The double-pack BrickHeadz set 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader was initially obtainable at Star Wars Celebration in May and will be available to all at LEGO.com from the 1st of August.

It's the second blocky representation of the Dark Lord to be produced, following 41619 Darth Vader released during 2018, but the first of the Jedi master, and it's been released to coincide with the latter's titular series on Disney+

This new version of Vader improves on the earlier one, particularly at the front of the helmet. The Sith's 'real' one does not have such prominent red on it, but the use of dark red for the lenses here does add colour and interest to the model. The two 1x2 curved slopes can be easily swapped out for black ones if you don't like it.

Having done just that, I can see why the designer chose to use dark red pieces, thus making them stand out a bit more, and to be honest I'm not sure which I prefer.

The helmet of 41619 Darth Vader looks very poor in comparison. Three of the four printed pieces are the same as those that were used in this earlier model, only that used on the chest differs.

41619-1

The back and sides of the helmet and cape look to be much the same as the earlier version.

A number of interesting building techniques have been employed to produce the detail on Obi-Wan's chest and to create his cape. It's not usual for BrickHeadz to have a mouth, but it was unavoidable here. It's actually been built upside-down in order to align with the pieces above.

I'm glad to see some detail on the back of his head, and the area around his shoulders is neatly sculpted.

Overall, then, although they are not particularly complicated or parts-heavy, they are nevertheless both competent and interesting figures that will delight both Star Wars and BrickHeadz fans.

The 260-piece set will be available at LEGO.com from 1st August, priced at £17.99 / $19.99 / 19.99€.

Thanks to LEGO for providing the set for this quick-look. All opinions expressed are my own.

By in United Kingdom,

I actually like Obi-Wan a lot more than I expected to from the box pictures. The way they've done the robe is really quite neat, I'd love to see some other robed Jedi.

Also did they give Vader a codpiece? XD

Those printed pieces on Vader look really useful for space builds. Having a dozen of those triangle pieces would open a lot of interesting possibilities for build decorations.

Vader actually does have red eyes in The Clone Wars, Kenobi, Rebels, Rogue One, and A New Hope. After that he has black eyes. It's nice to see LEGO acknowledge this with the brickhead and I hope some day they'll do it with the minifigure too.

I wonder if dark red would look better as Vader's eyes. Or trans-red on top of black parts, though you'd have to use substitutes for the curved slopes.

While this is true, I think trans-red would've looked better. But I'm guessing those don't exist in the bow part category.

By in Canada,

I think this might have to be my first Brickheadz purchase. I love the look of both of them, Vader especially. Much improved over the original BH Vader.

Obi-Wan's face is less of "hello there" and more of "hello darkness my old friend."

I did not know that Vader's eyes were red before Empire so that was a fun fact and makes sense why his eyes are red here.

But will this set be a fine addition to your collection?

These look pretty great as far as Brickheads go. Vader is a parts bonanza with all thosw printed pieces.

Poor Obi-wan looks a little bald. Like, imagine if FRASIER were in STAR WARS.

I was already tempted to get this despite owning 41619, and this has just escalated that temptation.

So... we get red eyes for Vader on BrickHeadz, but not on a minifigure?!?!

So is Quick look a new thing? Or did I just miss earlier ones?

BrickHeadz Kenobi’s face kind of gives me a retro Iron Man vibe…

For when sets don't warrant a full review.

By in Japan,

I'm planning to get this set to expand my Brickheadz collection.
I recently got the Ahsoka one to go with my Kylo Ren one, so these new ones will go nicely together.
The new Vader represents a great improvement over the old model, and I'm hoping that we might get a RotS era Kenobi Brickheadz some time in the future.

very happy to see lego lean in on building details over printing all of em and improving on older models; for all their faults, brickheadz almost always seem to employ smart SNOT solutions to adapt their characters' likenesses (both boba fetts come to mind). not picking any up but i may skim those instructions

Is this a Lego Store exclusive, like Ahsoka, or is it going to be available at retailers as well?

Call me uptight…but, and this is just one man’s opinion, the definition of Brickheadz, or what “defines” the look/feel OF of a Brickheadz, includes the cartoonish eyes. I swapped out the all-black 1x1 rounds on the first version of Vader with the cartoon eyes and, for me, Brickheadedness was achieved.

This new Vader is awesome…and I love the red. An…adjustment might be required in order to Brickheadz it up to my preferred definition. The only red cartoonish eyes I can think of that I could try to go get off the top of my head are from the….GASP…Martian Manhunter!

Maybe a stupid question, but does anyone know if this set will be exclusive to Lego.com? Love the set. Might be my first Brickheadz set!
