Review: 30443 Spider-Man Bridge Battle

Posted by ,

Spider-Man commonly encounters his enemies atop bridges, provoking immediate speculation when rumours about 30443 Spider-Man Bridge Battle emerged, especially with Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring another bridge encounter.

However, this polybag instead takes inspiration from Spider-Man: Far From Home, including an appealing Spider-Man minifigure alongside an E.D.I.T.H. drone, rather than Doctor Octopus.

Summary

30443 Spider-Man Bridge Battle, 44 pieces.

This is among my favourite recent polybags, especially for its great minifigure

  • Superb and uncommon minifigure
  • Accurate drone design
  • Avoidable stickers

Minifigure

6184 Spider-Man vs. Mysterio's Drone Attack introduced an excellent rendition of Spider-Man, wearing his black and red attire from Spider-Man: Far From Home. The minifigure returns here and remains impressive, including nice metallic silver highlights which continue across the dual-moulded legs.

The silver detailing on Spider-Man's lenses looks outstanding too, giving the impression of a realistic reflective surface. In addition, the webbed design across his head and torso appears accurate, although the black areas on the chest should actually be slightly enlarged to achieve complete fidelity to the 2019 film.

Spider-Man's climactic battle with Mysterio takes place on Tower Bridge and the hero briefly carries a sign to defend against Mysterio's drones. This design looks brilliant and reflects the source material precisely, although avoiding the sticker would have been ideal. The minifigure also includes a white Power Blast, neatly representing his web shooter.

The Completed Model

Three versions of the Stark Industries combat drone have been produced. The sleekest and most accurate model is available in 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio, so I am delighted the designer has followed that example closely. The predominant white colour looks superb, complemented by black and grey accents.

Large stud shooters are mounted on the flanks, diverging somewhat from the original drones. However, these do not actually bother me because their shape does approximate the source material, which also includes extensive armament. This drone accordingly displays additional weapons above and below its central sensor suite, distinguished by a single trans-bright green 1x1 round tile.

Two stickers decorate the top, again resembling the drones from 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio, albeit with a 2x2 curved slope replacing a 2x2 round tile. While the existing design was probably nearer to the onscreen drones, the new arrangement enables a smoother transition between the stickers.

Overall

While not necessarily as exciting as the name suggested, 30443 Spider-Man Bridge Battle is appealing. The minifigure looks fantastic and the accompanying drone is surprisingly detailed too, maintaining the best qualities from the model found in 76174 Spider-Man's Monster Truck vs. Mysterio.

However, encountering three stickers in a polybag is disappointing, even though they are used to good effect. Spider-Man's makeshift shield from the E.D.I.T.H. drone is an excellent addition though. Given the uncommon minifigure and exceptional drone design, I am very pleased with this little polybag.

I was able to get it back in December at Scheel’s, a bunch of other retailers got it back then. Should be a GWP at Lego in a couple months then available at either Walmart or Target towards the end of this year.

I haven't seen it in the US. I only found the Minecraft turtle polybag last month.

I picked mine up on eBay in the UK, it was pretty reasonably priced as I recall. No regrets.

I thought this polybag was already off the market... will it be hitting stores soon? This was one of the few polybags I looked for because of the spiderman figure.

Same! I wasn’t sure if it had just passed through stores without my noticing. But I am glad that stores will hopefully be getting it in the next couple months.

Cheap way to get the beautiful black and red suit. Too bad it doesn't sell where I live.

Stickers be damned, this is probably the best polybag in the last five years. Change my mind.

By in Denmark,

Isn’t this the first polybag in years to include stickers?

No, the Speed Champions polybags come to mind as recent examples.

That drone looks sweet and easily buildable. I may mot match the colors but I think I can build one with my spares.

It looks like a slo-mo of what happens when you throw an ice cream. They have web pieces, so I can't understand why they used that piece."

I don't think they have those pieces individually, rather those web pieces are packaged together in a little bag.

This is available in the US but with a London Bridge sticker.

Great timing a local toy store has them on sale for €3 starting monday.

In Seattle I’ve seen this at various Bartell (or just Bartell’s if you’re not a transplant like me) locations since February. Usually if there’s a polybag that’s revealed somewhere that isn’t a GWP or is available at Target, I’ll find it at a Bartell.

I was able to pick it up at Brick Fest Live in Edison, NJ back in April. I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

Which is weird, seeing as London Bridge and Tower Bridge are totally different bridges.

By in Germany,

For anyone in Germany looking for this polybag, Action stores currently have several polybags for sale for 2.99 Euro each, this one as well as 30390 and a few others.
