Review: 40525 Endgame Battle

Posted by ,

Accessory packs consistently include impressive minifigures and 40525 Endgame Battle appears outstanding in that regard. These characters are available elsewhere, although the updated Korg and Miek minifigures are exclusive, equipped to enter combat.

Additionally, these versions of Thor and Valkyrie are definitely appealing, particularly given the inexpensive price of £13.49, $14.99 or €14.99!

40525 Endgame Battle almost achieves perfection, including fantastic minifigures.

  • Extraordinary minifigure selection
  • Unique Korg minifigure
  • Excellent value
  • Surprisingly good Chitauri turret
  • Missed chance to update Valkyrie

Minifigures

After speaking with his mother on Asgard, Thor returns with renewed confidence in his power and manifests new armour, in preparation to fight Thanos. This minifigure has appeared twice before, although those sets are both notably expensive. Another opportunity to acquire Thor is therefore exciting, particularly because his dark armour and bedraggled hair element reflect the original character exactly.

Valkyrie returns from 76194 Tony Stark's Sakaarian Iron Man and her availability here is very welcome. However, this pack takes inspiration from the culminating conflict during Avengers: Endgame, when Valkyrie dons her Asgardian battle armour. This minifigure instead features Scrapper attire, which is disappointing. Even so, I do think the design looks brilliant, with dark blue straps and other highlights adorning the torso.

The character's fabric cape looks superb too, especially beside Thor's red equivalent. Valkyrie lacks an alternative expression because of her hair element, but Thor does include a face with crackling energy. Furthermore, both minifigures are suitably equipped with Mjölnir and a sword, respectively, but Stormbreaker is unfortunately missing.

While the Asgardian heroes are interesting, Korg and Miek are definitely the highlights of this pack! Both characters previously appeared in 76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard, casually dressed for video gaming with Thor. Now they are dressed for combat, so Korg features accurate straps and armour across his torso and legs. The spiked shoulder armour component was created for The LEGO Movie 2, but suits Korg perfectly.

Moreover, I love the textured element on Korg's head, but his facial expressions should have been updated. Both appear cheerful, which was ideal for 76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard, but I think an angry design would have been more appropriate here. Miek's insectoid head remains unchanged too, featuring the same tiny eyes, with the petals on lavender flowers depicting his limbs underneath.

While evidently durable in any form, Miek wears an exoskeleton during combat. His brick-built exoskeleton appears relatively simple, but includes prominent swords and is accurately scaled beside minifigures. The figure includes some articulation as well. Korg carries a Sakaaran laser rifle, which makes surprisingly successful use of the updated stud shooter.

The lone Chitauri seems decidedly outmatched here, so including a member of Thanos' Black Order would have been preferable. Nevertheless, this minifigure looks great, having appeared three times before during 2021. The metallic gold highlights are effective and I love the alien's head, in particular, displaying piercing green eyes and a ferocious mouth.

Similar designs decorate the torso, including golden armour and mysterious tubes, which are presumably needed to enhance the Chitauri's combat abilities. The plain dark bluish grey legs seem fairly bland beside the torso, unfortunately. Nevertheless, this is comfortably my favourite among the different Chitauri minifigures.

The Completed Model

Four minifigures and Miek's exoskeleton understandably account for most of this set's content, hence the actual model is little more than an accessory for the Chitauri. Nevertheless, the light turret looks marvellous, including a stud shooter, armour to protect the operator and storage for extra trans-purple 1x1 round plates. Also, the dark tan and purple colours match other Chitauri equipment.

Overall

40525 Endgame Battle contains an extraordinary selection of minifigures, easily justifying the price of £13.49, $14.99 or €14.99. The presence of four popular heroes and their opponent, in such an inexpensive set, feels remarkable. Of course, the exclusive version of Korg is certainly the outstanding addition, but the whole minifigure roster is impressive.

Valkyrie's attire is rather disappointing though, since this pack provided the perfect opportunity to produce her Asgardian armour. However, expecting a second exclusive minifigure in a small accessory set is probably unrealistic. Even without that minifigure, I can absolutely recommend 40525 Endgame Battle.

What a great value, especially when compared to this year's Star Wars blister packs.

I read this in Korg's voice.

This is a fantastic minifig pack. Hopefully we will see a few more things like this!

It's a shame Lego haven't produced a version of Valkyrie in her silver armour, ended up having to buy one off Etsy instead :(

I like this pack, but I really feel like Korg needed an entire moulded head. He looks a bit too much like a man wearing a weird hat. Also I just got 76193 so Thor and the Chitauri are less interesting to me - I think I'll give it a miss myself, but it's a good set nonetheless.

Doesn't the Thor in the Guardian ship set have bare arms, instead of gunmetal sleeves?

Only in official photos; in the Brickset review you can see that they are actually identical.

I think this is a fantastic minifigure pack, and will almost certainly pick it up. It's nice that the Marvel theme puts main characters in very cheap sets like this, something Star Wars routinely struggles with. It is a real shame Valkyrie didn't get her white armor though, and an exclusive figure would take this set up another notch. The build is pretty much pointless, but including Miek it's good enough. That design for Mike's exosuit is brilliant though!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.
