Telekom CEO: Your children shall be indoctrinated into buying our product. I know this because it worked for Velux.

Team Telekom plays for keeps, brazenly handing out bananas to its cyclists for use against competitors, Mario Kart-style.

By in Netherlands,

Love the team colors and suggestions of food (banana) and drink bidons, considering the year 2000 didn't have the same parts to make more accurate drink bottles (like the still fairly recent 1x1 round with bar/pin holder , or soda can print both from 2015)

Those aren't meant to be fire extinguishers.

If you consider what "mainstream" Town sets looked like in 2000, this pretty good. The design is reminiscent of the coeval Soccer sets, but the figs and colours and a bit more Old Town and the pink is delicious.

By in Australia,

It's an odd bike race where you're armed with bananas and fire extinguishers, isn't it?

Gotta have that potassium if you want to win the bike race

Not very effective if a Blue Shell of the main Peleton comes.

By in United States,

Just repackage it and sell it for $20 USD already.

By in United States,

I have a rack of fresh bananas ready to go.

@TeriXeri:
Of course not. Those are clearly seltzer bottles.

"Imma win this race with my bananas and fire extinguishers!" *speeds off*

By in Singapore,

Has anyone noticed the new line on set pages on brickset showing retirement dates? Are they sourced from lego or are they accurate?

By in United States,

This reminds me of how much I used to love the Tour De France and Team US Postal with Lance Armstrong as a kid until... well... you know.

Remember that time when LEGO used to have so many random brand collaborations showing up in their Town sets?
Well I guess they recently started returning to those random brand collaborations, but in a different way than previously.
LEGO Addis shoes, anyone?

By in Germany,

Bought it solely for the bananas...

BIKES!!!

A+++ set!

And I'm not remotely biased because I'm a cyclist. Nope. Not at all.

By in Germany,

@xboxtravis7992: I actually have that Team Telekom cycling shirt - the real one, with matching trousers. Used to love the Tour de France and Team Telekom with Jan Ullrich as a teen until... well... you know.

I LOVE these Telekom sets especially the unique bike colour.
Managed to get mint sticker sheets for them a few years ago, so now have a completly restored sets!

By in Belgium,

I’m surprised that cyclists do not have helmets, but have only caps instead. Anybody knows what were TdF rules in 2000, were helmets not yet mandatory?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Helmets weren't mandatory in pro cycling until 2003.
I'd love to see teams reprise this- appreciate that referencing Ulrich is maybe a little uncomfortable but there's enough separation now.

We know, what you did, Jan Ullrich!

There is a joke about a very popular mtb news site in here somewhere, but I'm not going to type it out here, just to keep people guessing.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

All jokes about fire extinguishers and banana peels aside, this set is a really good one because of its unusual subject matter. And not only does it have vehicles, it also has locations!

I wish more sets were able to provide this much content for the price again.

By the way, I used to own this from a random parts lot, but the baseplate was the light greenish colour from the paradisa sets. Eventually parted it out though, as it was too much of a hassle to get some of the missing parts. IDK which ones though.

Realisticly there should be a syringe or two lying around. ;-)

By in United States,

Now this is what I think of when I think “random set.”

Gravatar
By in United States,

Argh! This is one of two bike colors I don’t own(the other being the old yellow one the postal worker uses).

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Funny enough; my bike was in a shop earlier this week. It's needed its 'bottom bracket' (the part where the peddles/crankshaft connect) for about a year-and-a half...Thanks C19...

Anywho; if this set (or a variant) was to come out today, all those...'spigot tops' would be replaced with those 1x1 tile with the spouts (you know: the condiment tops). Beyond that; like the bikes, anytime you get a mold in a unique color it's a good thing...

By in Australia,

Well, it’s a nice pack for the bikes.

The rest isn’t too bad either.
