Cad Bane! Let's go! The best Bounty Hunter ever in Star Wars, I don't care what anyone else thinks. One of the few reasons I got this set, but the rest of it's also pretty good, too.

Let’s go! Best version of the clone turbo tank! (In my opinion)

ahhh... back when star wars was good. why didnt i get this?

Is... is that little walker supposed to be the same cab-less AT-ST we got in the 501st set last year (and at least two other sets over the years)? It's just so much BETTER scaled! I say "cab-less AT-ST" because that's how massive those other AT-RTs are.

My reaction to the tank here is less dramatic, because it's one of the prequel vehicles I just never got into. It's not bad and I don't hate the odd wheel or two in my Star Wars, but it never captured my imagination. As a representation of that, this set seems fine. The figs are a good assortment from that era of The Clone Wars, though I am glad we got away from the "really trying to look like the animation" printing. The more "normal" printing of the figs from Season 7 or the Bad Batch is much better since they integrate with all movie-based/standard figs.

This is objectively true. It’s very simple: no other bounty hunter has a hat that wide. I ran the numbers, and there is a positive correlation between Hat Width and Bounty Hunter Greatness. You can’t argue with Science.

By in United States,

In the 1990s Star Wars novels this was a vehicle referenced as a Juggernaut and later fleshed out in the prequel movies, but this was the absolute pinnacle of the model from The Clone Wars series and Lego's best version. I love this design so much, every time one pops up I get the feels.

By in United States,

I always wanted to like this (regardless of set), as it reminded me of the big Classic Space rovers. But there’s just something wonky about it.

I can’t put my finger on it, but I always thought the AT-TE had more charm.

By in United States,

No stud shooters, large vehicle with lots of space inside, enough studs on the exterior to put figures and other things all over, cool wheels, nice minifigs, reasonable price for what you get.

A- grade set. Maybe an A but I'm not a fan of Clone Wars so I can't say if the set is actually better than my initial assessment.

By in Australia,

Man, I must've known five or six kids back in the day who had this. Probably the best rendition of the vehicle, while both Aayla and Cad Bane were terrific characters to collect, albeit still in that creepy Clone Wars style LEGO did from 2008-2014.

By in United States,

I got this set in January 2012 along with the Grand Emporium. In spite of the hideous faces on the minifigures, the set was enough of a vast improvement from the 2005 Clone Turbo Tank that I was compelled to add it to my collection. I think the best features are the wheels and the ability for the tank to hold a more accurately-scaled AT-RT.

If there was one minifigure I did like from the set, it was Aayla Secura. Thankfully, she was re-released years later with a "normal" look and design, and I obtained the minifigure from a third-party store. This new Aayla will replace TCW version that came with the set. The clones can always have their faces hidden by the helmets. Cad Bane is an alien (Duros) who would look more or less the same in animation or live-action. And Anakin and Ashoka...I just pretend they're not there!

By in Canada,

The main build looks super strong and well proportioned, but when you look at the suspension/wheel system as a whole, it is pretty lacking. It looks like its just hovering above some random wheels. I think that overall its the best looking Juggernaut but if I were to say use it in a moc Id have to change the suspension.

By in Canada,

Ah...this baby; first time I saw it was NOT as Lego set, NOR on the screen in 'Revenge of the Sith'...it was in West End Games 'Imperial Sourcebook' for their Star Wars RPG. Even back then I remember thinking: 'Wheels...in Star Wars...kinda' primitive...'. In retrospect, now I wonder: Why would the Imperials keep these thing, unless it was 'cost effective' to do so...(imagines a conversation between the Emperor and the Imperial Head of Finance...not going well:)).

Presumably that system makes Bulduga, one of the Ithorian brothers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Cad Bane's bounty hunting equal. He wears exactly the same hat as Cad Bane.

On another topic, this is an excellent rendition of the Turbo Tank! I absolutely love the turret atop the rear cab and the AT-RT is superb, as others have mentioned.

Gravatar

Honestly, I like this better than most of the 2021 line of Star Wars sets.

How do you explain Embo?
He has a much wider hat.

That is why he is better.

Cad Bane’s cool, but he’s not exactly a super compelling character is he? He’s cartoonishly evil and doesn’t seem motivated by much beyond money. Cool hat tho

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Always wanted to like Cad Bane a bit more than I did. He was cool, but a bit too stereotypical at times. Loved his voice, though. In fact, almost all the voice-acting in the Clone Wars was amazing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CapnRex101 Didn't Cad Bane take the hat from Bulduga? So it literally is the same hat! I guess I need to watch The Clone Wars again.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This is a great set that came out slightly before my resurrection from my Dark Age. I'm so glad that they have moved away from those ultra-freaky face prints... but that minifigure selection is amazing.

A clone, and a commander, and THREE Jedi, AND CAD BANE! Best hat-brim-to-greatness ratio since Embo.

Plus the AT-RT is better than the recent one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@peterlmorris:
The armor looks good, but if you peek underneath, it’s just wheels attached to toothpicks. I have no idea what the undercarriage of this vehicle should look like, but clearly neither did the set designer. However, unless you have the carrier to fly it in from space, or it gets blown up in battle, you’re unlikely to see it from below during play.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was able to buy this set on the aftermarket back in 2016 - I am so happy I did. It's definitely the best rendition of the Turbo Tank (also the best rendition of the AT-RT).

Not only that, but it works really works well as a "troop carrier" with some slight modifications. Just put some plates in the middle section (the one that stores the AT-RT) and your golden.

This is just my inner nostalgia speaking, but I consider 2008-2014 to be "peak LEGO Star Wars". 2010 in particular was great - so many new molds and characters. The summer 2010 wave (which included the Turbo Tank) was the first LEGO Star Wars wave that I really followed and got "hyped" for - I still remember searching for blurry preliminary images on YouTube and Google.

@PurpleDave I think LEGO made it so "barebones" to allows for steering and suspension. It would have been really hard to have both with a built-up underside.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was lucky enough to score this set in a used Star Wars haul a few months ago. Glad I got the Cad Bane fig before his price went up with his Bad Batch appearance.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Still got this one anchoring the far end of my Clone Wars shelf, with the LAAT/c perched on top (and always kind of precariously threatening to fall off sideways, I feel like I never really got the hang of the attachment system there). Now that I think of it, given how it's stationary, I may as well get rid of that 'suspension' and built up the underside properly one of these days.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really amazing set. I got it second hand from someone who was moving. Had purchased 5 other sets and she told me her son would be selling it in a few days once he assembled it to make sure it was complete. I debated a bit having just spent $150, but figured what’s another $80. Best decision I ever made. Then my son stole it from me!

I later got the original with the light up Mace Windu, the difference is night and day. This one solves the steering problems and just looks so much better.

A little odd having wheels on a Star Wars vehicle, I believe that wheels exist in a not too far away galaxy. But it’s not bad having unique vehicles, and they are fun to drive around. I have to admit that this galaxy’s primitive Lego technology makes this much easier to play with than Luke’s speeder!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Such a great set. Though I do have very rose tinted glasses. This was right in my golden age of playing with Legos. Incredible play value and figures. Nowadays if they made a turbo tank it would be 33% smaller in dimensions, yet somehow pack 50% more unnecessary pieces into the body and cost 2x as much.

Also, the "front" and "back" were always opposite to me. The end with the narrower "head" (in the right side of the picture here, the end with the mannable turret) was alwas so obviously the front end to me. I even switched the chin lasers to that side because I was so sure it was the front. Still am. Very confusing to me that the bulky ugly end is the official front.

Nearly Speed Champion scale.

By in United Kingdom,

Seems like a slightly random choice of minifigs. I don’t remember this as an episode so have Cad Bad and Aayla Secura just been thrown in because they’re popular?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For a tank there is not really any obvious heavy artillery. An improvement in design on 7261 , while still lots of room for all your mini-figs and equipment compared to the smaller version 75151 .
As others have mentioned the 1st moc would be to improve the suspension, as only the middle wheels had any Technic like suspension, the other four axles just rotated around the central pin (maybe the budget was blown on the 20 wheels).

The set is based on TCW's season 2 opening, which heavily featured Cad. Aayla, no idea.

Cad Bane did get a lot of screen time, and some of it was even against Anakin and Asokha…but I remember neither Turbo Tank or Aayla appearing with him. Was it literally just Lego going “hey throw fan favourite Cad Bane into the expensive set to encourage collectors to get it”?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had this but parted it out, but I'm sorting though my parts now and plan to rebuild it, with a few modifications.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great set!!

I always thought it looked like it was travelling backwards though….

Gravatar
By in Germany,

New version is overdue. Also, B-Wing, please!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Honestly, the main thing about this set that interests me is the Aayla minifigure. Usually not a huge fan of the TCW-style faces on minifigures, but for that specific character I feel like the style works, in a way that it doesn't with most of the others. I'd certainly choose this version of her over the newer Aayla minifig, personally.

Of course, she's not exactly cheap nowadays...

Then again, that's also the case with every version of the Turbo Tank that I remember. Classic!Mace (light-up or otherwise); TCW Aayla; Quinlan Vos? All on my wanted minifigures list. The rest of the set itself? I could take it or leave it.

-
On a different note, does this vehicle have a proper name? Usually Star Wars vehicle type designations include semi-technical acronyms or numbers; "Clone Turbo Tank" sounds more like the work of Lego's set-naming department, and I have trouble imagining it being called that seriously in-universe!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had no idea this was a Star Wars set until I zoomed in on the picture...

I’m not familiar with this vehicle at all. Kinda looks like a random space vehicle with a few Star Wars minifigures thrown in. Great selection of minifigures though.

@ThatBionicleGuy:
HAVw A6 Juggernaut. The WEG version is an A5, the Rogue One version is an A9, and regarding complaints about which end is the front...it has a cockpit at both ends. Like many high-speed trains, you can just switch ends instead of turning it around.

He is one of my favorite bounty hunters. And he’s definitely the best of his day. But I would say that Boba, when he is older was the best. If you follow the theory that yellow represents revenge for Mandalorians, then theoretically the yellow markings on his helmet represent all the Jedi that he has killed to avenge his father. So I would say that Bane was the best hunter of his day, but Boba is better.

By in United States,

This is up there as one of my favorite sets of all time. I remember a friend getting the original turbo tank from ROTS and thinking that it was one of the coolest things ever, so when this came out I had to have it. It's chunky, well-built and detailed, and has a massive presence to it that juggernauts just need to have. Also, another favorite vehicle of mine is the AT-RT, and having an actual minifig scale one as opposed to the action figure scaled nonsense, or battle pack uglies, TLG likes to release is great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had no idea that people even liked this set. I always thought it was easily the worst rendition of the Juggernaut. Those wheels and especially the way they're attached looks absolutely awful to me. 7261 still reigns supreme as the strongest rendition, IMO. That set was so solid.

Exception proves the rule

Clearly, like much of the rest of his armor, he’s got a spare on the ship. Therefore, his HWR varies with how far away he is from Slave I.
