Random set of the day: Tricycle

Today's random set is 1257 Tricycle, released in 1999. It's one of 33 Technic sets produced that year. It contains 24 pieces.
It's owned by 348 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

There really was an epidemic of 3-wheeled vehicles in Lego in the late 90s, wasn't there? It even reached into Technic sets.
Ghost Trike! Run for your lives!
I have an odd feeling that this was an RSOTD a few months ago. No, I'm not talking about the Sonic Cycle, it just looks familiar for some reason.
At least the last Technic bike had a good colour scheme. The wheels got it right, but all that red? Why red? You could make it yellow with some trans yellow, or white, with some trans neon green.. Come on Lego, do it right! At least you got black in there.

Ooh, good point. I hear Mandy Patinkin injured a rib because he was laughing so hard at Billy Crystal's ad-libbing during the filming of The Princess Bride. Might have to resort to drastic measures to keep her from suffering a far more debilitating injury...

I wonder why Technic polybags are so rare? This year's 30465 has to be the first in decades.
Compared to some small Technic sets of the era, this one is a little short on function ( 1260 from the same year, also a polybag had a working 1 cyl. engine!) especially when compared to the other 2-3 Technic polybags released that year.

If it wasn't literally named "tricycle," I'm not sure I'd have noticed this has three wheels. Scrolling too fast to the comments, I guess.
It's a different scale than I'm used to imaging for Technic--unless it actually is a child's toy--but it's cute enough.

Idea for an article. Identical sets with different numbers, compared by year. Which set has the most different numbers, and which year saw the largest number of sets with different numbers?

You’d need to clarify if it’s 100% identical, or if something as simple as a sticker sheet changing would be allowed, for stuff like all those branded planes and ships where they just repeated the same build.

I cannot stress ENOUGH how beautifully made and designed this piece of beauty is. I cannot stress ENOUGH that this is the best technic set ever graced to the public by our genius LEGO designers.
The theme name "Technic" is (almost) exactly as long as the tricycle. Does it actually steer? Or is the only function facilitated by the rubber bands?

Judging by it's construction, and my knowledge of technic parts, I would say no.

I think the rubber bands act as shock absorbers in case you trip and fall on it in the middle of the night.
