Same name?! I guess the Arctic crew got a 2000 model from the same manufacturer."

I think the chainsaw pieces are there to make it look like treads, they also use them in 8863 for world racers

By in United States,

It's adorable. Not particularly complex, but it is adorable.

Wait, wasn’t this the rsotd like two days ago? Small snow mobile, with superfluous chainsaw! All it’s missing is the jet pack, propeller, machine gun thing!!!

No surprises here,
Unique: None
Rare: None

oh wait it has a RED CHAIR. Long thought to be a prototype element in the hands of only a few collectors it turns out the red chair was included in this set, why is nobody talking about this?

By in Australia,

It is adorable. It's such a small set, but it's so charming and cute. As a kid, I always used to think the minifigs with the blue glasses and whiskers on their chins? They looked so cool.

This was available as a polybag in Australia? I think? I know there was a boxed version, but I'm sure I bought the polybag version in '94 (because I remember going on a family holiday in '95 and taking this little guy with me, as he was one of my favourite toys at the time).

Um, maybe because that piece was in 128 sets in that color?

Oh yeah, my bad. Could have sworn it was incredibly rare even though I have about 50 in my loose pieces. Just trying to spice up the miniscule selection of pieces in the event of not much interesting in this classic.

To scoot on your snow?

@MCLegoboy :
I’d think that would depend partly on how deep the snow is, and partly on what’s underneath it. Throw about an inch of powder on a hardwood floor, and this might be viable.

@Cooliocdawg :
No, but it did get cited in the comments as the earliest use of chainsaw treads. I’m cool with calling a mulligan in this.

@Galaxy12_Import :
You may be remembering correctly. Bricklink recognizes two variants of the minifig chair. One has a pip in a divot right behind the studs, and the other does not. The pip-free version is older, and came in red in lots of sets. The pip version is recognized as coming out in 2004, but a red version is not inventoried in any sets until 2007. So, assuming those dates are correct, there’s a three-year window where the only known copies of the newer variant may have very well been prototypes. Since then, however, the new version has been used almost as much as the old version, and is now pretty common. Remember, all common parts start out as incredibly rare before they're first released in a set.

I don’t get it. I have lots of red chairs

By in United States,

OK, sorry I tried to be Mr funny guy with the Red Chair thing, of course it's a very common piece now and even if you only have five LEGO sets there's a good chance you have one. Like @PurpleDave mentioned there is the mold variation but it was supposed to be a joke all along. Enjoy your scooters and your chairs, and I'll see you tomorrow.

Now this is a snowmobile, that, although smaller, Sawfist from two or three days ago would be jealous of.
At least the "snow" is more believable here not in big chunks like Blizzard Blazer. This time it looks more like coke than meth. The vehicles names as well play into the joke: Blizzard "Blazer" and "Snow" Scooter.

Hmmm...wondering if there's an 'algorithm' at work/play here: go back three sets, snowmobile. Go back three more sets, snowplow...maybe an 'Arctic' or 'Ice Planet' set will show up three sets from now...:)

On the set: strange looking back that TLG made like a 'quantum leap' w/'Space', 'Castle', and 'Town' (w/Minifigs and Parts); but not without (ironically) 'stumbling blocks'. It looks like snowmobiles were a problem, at least 'til recent...partially (while I like the snowmobiles from the '18 Artic sets, didn't like that they use a single ski)...Still, not the worst thing I've seen; and small sets like this are really good for gifts and such; and of course adding to collections, dioramas and such.

By in Netherlands,

Most definitely an early licensed set. This is clearly Murdock from the A-team. And that chainsaw is just a chainsaw, because that was what the A-team did. Build weapons and vehicles from stuff they would find in some faraway garage or shed or some place.

I like your definition of "two days ago". It was eleven days actually ;)

I know this is a thing that happens in comment sections on the internet and it's fruitless for me to complain, but... please read the rest of the comments before you reply.

By in Poland,

It even has HEADLIGTHTS. Such attention to detail in such a small set. Lovely.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks like a pretty neat set for its size. Would there be snow scooters with steering wheels irl?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Totally love the red chair discussion.

I once was at a toy store where you could fill small plastic bags with Lego bricks for 1 euro, pick-a-brick-style. The store owner saw me filling a gazillion bags and offered me bigger bags to fill for 5 euro. Like, a kilogram of bricks for 5 euro. Needless to say, I went all-in. I have thousands of red 2x1 slopes now. And hundreds of red chairs. Was going to use them for trains and buses, but you never know when they become rare ;)

Correct, sorry. I was thinking about that other snow mobile with Chainsaw Drive. Eleven days ago. Quite the coincidence :)

There have been many snow mobiles.

Tough Minifig, not wearing gloves out in the snowy winter.

What a silly little set. Only a couple tiny token black parts, and no white or Neon green at all! at least there is some trans yellow. That red though.....

@Wrecknbuild:
There are three basic means of mechanically steering a motor vehicle that I know of. Cars use steering wheels which are geared in such a way that when you turn the wheel 45°, your front tires turn quite a bit less. This gives you more precise control over your direction, making it easier to navigate multi-lane roads with oncoming traffic, and freeways with very high rates of speed. Forklifts often use a variant of this where all you have to steer with is a “suicide knob”, since (like an aircraft), you are controlling your throttle with one hand and steering with the other.

Motorcycles, snowmobiles, jet-skis, and other vehicles that you straddle don’t typically have a means of operator restraint, so removing your hands from the controls increases the likelihood that you’ll be thrown free of the vehicle, so they typically have handlebars that are either directly mounted to the means of steering, or have been geared in such a way to produce a roughly 1:1 equivalent, giving the operator full range of steering without having to reposition hands on the controls as you do with a car. This steering ratio also means that, if you do remove one hand from the controls, your chances of losing control of the vehicle are significantly higher than they would be in a car, since the steering is more susceptible to uneven terrain. So, no, generally speaking a snowmobile of this style would always have handlebars so you never have to remove your hands from the controls.

There is a fourth steering system that I believe is only used on a single style of land-based motor vehicle, which is a motorized pallet jack that has a platform on the back for the operator to ride on. It steers with a tiller, like a boat, which has the same inherent problem that the operator’s body will interfere with the range of steering on whichever side they are located.

By in United States,

I actually have a chair in a shade of greenish-blue that isn't even produced... I think it may have gotten tinted by all the yellow pieces in 7775, if that's possible??
