Man a $20 set with over 250 pieces and a power function? Why did I ever not get Creator sets? Oh yeah, Star Wars stole my soul and 2008 was when Clone Wars was coming out so of course I didn't get good deals on sets like this one.

What I liked about this one was that it looked like a Sikorsky Skycrane, which I've always thought was a cool helicopter. And the working winch was a nice little bonus, too.

What kind of battery pack did that wench have?

Edit: I just realized that it’s not battery powered. Is there anyone here that knows how this worked? Like, is it a wind up?

But can it save the man that fell into the lego city river?

Right. Time to crate up yesterday’s RSotD and haul it to Arctic and put it on ice!

Like the blob from that Steve McQueen film?

I own the later City Coast Guard Helicopter 60013 and it's basically an axle coming out of a box with a button on it, and when you turn the axle one way (pull winch out) it stores that energy with some sort of spring, and when you hit that button it spins the axle the other way (retracts winch). No electronics, so I'm not really sure why they called it Power Functions.

@Cooliocdawg: It's been a long time since I played with it, but if memory serves, you pull the string out, then push the button to rewind it.

I own one. Basically, you twist the axle one way until it stops, then you push the button and it winds back up. It was pretty fun but had a limited range. It sounds like there may be a motor inside with a battery, but I am uncertain.

You press a button to make it work. I do have this set, so that would be how I know. And yes it is wind-up.

By in Canada,

Yeah, I have the winch part in 60013. I’d guess it is spring-powered.
Is it a “power function?” Technically, I suppose so. But that seems a bit misleading.

Still, nice set though.

Maybe this helps refill the ammo on the catapult raft.

Almost minifig scale... only the boat out of the three could accommodate minifigures, the main model is so close though. Could probably fit a Star Wars droid made from battle droid pieces.

What always rubbed me wrong about these '00s sets pictures when I was a kid was that they were no longer photoed, but rendered. I didn't know that at the time, it just felt artificial to me and I didn't like it.

By in Latvia,

This looks like a good set for $20, with a good design and power functions!

By in Switzerland,

You could use that thing to carry a Lego T-Rex around. Wink!

By in Australia,

Yeah it’s not a bad little set.

I consider myself lucky as I managed to pick up an unopened one from a charity shop for $12 AUD a few months ago.

For the same number of pieces this is a really poor design compared to 60034 , which also included 4 adorable huskies. My main dis-appointment is that they miss the functionality of Technic helicopters like 42092 with working main and tail rotors, and winch for around the same price. The only reason to buy this set is for the spring winch, which I can see plenty of other uses for, but also only appears in the far more interesting 7738 coast guard rescue helicopter or buy for $2 on bricklink.

Creator is the best Lego line change my mind. No licences, versatile bricks, multiple model options, no must-have collectable minifigs with slightly different prints, a good price per piece ratio, a lot of playability, stimulates creativity

@Koentinius:
Based on your list of reasons, it sounds like you already did change your mind.

By in United States,

I just realized I've been doing part stats for a month now, and I plan to keep going as long as I have my usual downtime but might miss a day here and there. Today we have a nice creator set, but late 2000's Creator is not exactly the pinnacle of rare elements so the stats are quite boring:

Unique: None

Rare: None

Someone remarked about the sherpa minifig a couple days back; I decided to exclude minifigures from the statistics from the beginning, though some are definitely worth talking about. The only other discrepancy so far was the inclusion of the vinyl tarp thing in the LOM shuttle and then excluding the Scala clothing the next day. Just personal preference at this point, especially since it isn't too difficult to click through to Rebrickable and see the complete inventory if you are so inclined (which is my reference for these comments).
