Review: 75295 Millennium Falcon Microfighter

75295 Millennium Falcon Microfighter succeeds two previous Microfighters depicting this famed vessel and shares evident similarities with those models. However, constructing the Microfighter reveals some remarkable differences compared with its predecessors.

These differences become particularly apparent when viewing this freighter from behind, where the engines are visible. The associated Han Solo minifigure also offers considerable appeal, having only appeared in three earlier sets. Nevertheless, I wonder whether another Millennium Falcon Microfighter was really needed.

Minifigure

Han Solo minifigures appear throughout the LEGO Star Wars range and this version takes inspiration from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Exactly the same minifigure has made three previous appearances, including with two particularly expensive sets, so his presence here is welcome. An exclusive double-sided head would have been brilliant though.

Nevertheless, the textured hair piece looks splendid and I like the detailed pockets which are printed on each side of the torso, closely resembling Han's onscreen attire. Unfortunately, the skin tone decoration on this component appears completely washed out beside the head. The dark blue legs are perfect though, featuring a printed holster for the blaster pistol.

The Completed Model

Despite its familiar appearance, 75295 Millennium Falcon Microfighter definitely captures the most important features of this celebrated freighter. The ramshackle exterior seems authentic, including rudimentary mechanical detail and dark red highlights which correspond exactly with the original vehicle. Furthermore, this model feels extremely robust for play.

Comparing the new model with 75030 Millennium Falcon Microfighter and 75193 Millennium Falcon Microfighter demonstrates their close similarities. All three vehicles share identical dimensions and proportions, as one might imagine, while their fundamental construction techniques have also remained consistent. However, the new model includes much greater detail across the mandibles.

Viewing these models from behind reveals the most obvious difference as the engine design has been completely overhauled. This structure comprises trans-light blue 1x2 plates which create an appropriate shape and appear to glow more brightly, simply by capturing the light. Additionally, I appreciate the subtler use of dark bluish grey on the latest Millennium Falcon, consisting primarily of light bluish grey pieces but incorporating darker highlights.

While previous Microfighters have included 2x3 wedge bricks within each mandible, the 2021 design replaces those with superior texture. The resulting mechanical detail is basic but looks excellent at this scale. Furthermore, I like the port docking ring and twin floodlights are located at the tip of each mandible, complemented by maintenance pits on top. Once again, these tiles appear simple but they satisfy my requirements for a Microfighter.

Unfortunately, the cockpit decoration has been simplified in relation to earlier models, lacking printing across the front of this element. I think black viewports would be more appealing than dark bluish grey too. There is adequate space for a minifigure though and I like the trans-clear 1x1 slope in front of the pilot. Twin stud shooters are situated on top of the fuselage, depicting dorsal laser cannons.

Four additional 1x1 round tiles form heat exhaust vents towards the rear, alongside three 1x1 slopes which represent fuel drive stabilisers. Neither feature is present in the correct quantity, although their inclusion at all is appreciated. However, my favourite detail is certainly the new engine assembly which achieves a substantial improvement upon previous designs due most notably to the revised shaping.

Overall

Countless fascinating vehicles populate the Star Wars universe, including many which have never appeared in Microfighter form. Something new would definitely have been appreciated instead of another Millennium Falcon, although the enormous recognition of this craft must be acknowledged. With that in mind, 75295 Millennium Falcon Microfighter looks superb.

Various improvements have been introduced when compared with the two previous designs, exceeding my expectations based upon official images. Moreover, the Han Solo minifigure is likely to prove popular because this depiction of the character has scarcely appeared outside considerably larger sets and the price of £8.99 or $9.99 represents good value in my opinion.

This set was provided for review by The LEGO Group but the review represents an expression of my own opinions.

By in Canada,

The last one was one year off.

The next one should be in 2025.

I wish it had some print on the front of the cockpit piece, like the other two did

Nice little build for fun and for the kids. I'm glad they've included this Han Solo, the hair and vest will be very valuable going forward on minifigure customs.

By in United States,

For anyone wondering what the microfighter to go with this one is, and if it got cancelled or not, here's what it says on Lego.com

This buildable playset combines brilliantly with the AT-AT vs. Tauntaun Microfighters (75298) set to open up even more play options.

There we go, mystery solved. It's supposed to go with the dual pack and not another normal microfighter

By in United States,

When they announced this, I was so very hopeful that it'd be the Solo white and blue Falcon. Mostly so I could get a Solo Han in brown jacket on the cheap. (Look, love or hate the Microfighters, they're a very affordable way to get some minifigs.)

By in United States,

But here's hoping the one unannounced Microfighter for 2021 is the Razor Crest....

@ResIpsaLoquitur I also want a white & blue Millennium Falcon Microfighter, but with a young Lando in the cockpit!

By in Brazil,

I'll buy it for the same reason I bought Chewie's Falcon Microfighter: a cheap way to get the figure, even though the building is very similar.

By in United States,

Since I don't have an ANH Han and the Cantina is way out of reach, this is a must buy.

By in United States,

I honestly like these little sets! I don’t like having to make space (and pay for) the giant play sets, so these are perfect little compromises. That and they’ve really stepped up their game on including desirable mini figures! I loved having Zorri Bliss, Hera, Kylo Ren, and various pilots in cheaper sets. That and with some modifications, they make for pretty nice mini-models.

Would love a Razor Crest or Slave I microfighter soon

By in Puerto Rico,

Thanks for the review but in all honestly it should have been the Lando version this year.

By in United States,

I love the microfighters because they pack a tiny build design with a good figure. In this case, a great figure. Definitely getting this. Thank you for comparing it to the other two Falcons, definitely helps!

By in United States,

Might I suggest adding tags for "Millenium Falcon" and "Han Solo" to your set info page?

Just for fun I wanted to see all the Falcon sets but it didn't have the tag.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely getting this one. Picked up the most recent falcon from 2019 but it didn’t have a Han. So this will have to supplement for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Okay yeah the engines are waaaay better. Didn't notice that

@Lordmoral:
Is this the correct outfit for Lando's Han Solo disguise?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe if they keep releasing the MF micro fighters, I'll eventually have enough parts to assemble my own UCS Falcon.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a piece of junk!

I’ve got everything crossed for a RotJ Millennium Falcon later this year. Lando! Nien Numb! And no, reduced parts like the X-Wing and TIE fighter please.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder how these would fit into the Death Star sets. I always found it strange that it includes Vader’s TIE where the Falcon should be parked. My son has the one with Chewie, but he used it for parts long before I got a Death Star.

You people always complain about Lego making more X-wings, Tie Fighters and Millennium Falcons, but I have to ask, what problem is there with making more?

The main problem is that the remakes are taking up valuable spaces in the wave with minimal improvements from a couple of years ago, whereas LEGO could make something original, not yet seen before in LEGO Star Wars. I don’t have too much of a problem with it myself, though I see why and how it can be frustrating.

If you look at the back of the box at other images for 75295 you will see
75298: Tauntaun vs. AT-AT Microfighters which looks like a lot of fun and cannot wait for the release, March 2021?

Thank You so much for the comparison photos it makes the review a lot better in my opinion.
Once again Thanks.

True. But the fact that they keep making them again and again means that, clearly, there's a good demand. There's a reason we're not seeing any more of those buildable figures...

@Slobrojoe:
No, the main problem is that their customer base is divided into two very different groups. At any given moment, the majority of their sales are to customers who will buy a few sets here and there for a few years and then age out. And at any given moment, the customers who make the largest and highest quantity of purchases are those of us who skipped that “normal” phase, and turned it into an adult hobby. The former (kids) want the most popular vehicles, and, as is increasingly the case, probably weren’t even born when the first version of a given OT craft was released. The only thing that matters to them is that _a_ version of their favorite vehicle/character is available to buy during the few years that they’re still interested. For adult hobbyists, it just gets tiresome to see the same vehicles endlessly circling the store shelves, with only minor cosmetic changes being made each time they pass by. They* want to see more stuff that is new and unique, and less repeats of stuff they’ve already purchased years ago.

*the wrench in the gears here is new collectors. Kids who missed out on all the early sets can turn into adult hobbyists, at which point they do still want to fill in any major holes in their collection, and then start complaining (ironically) about how it’s all endless repeats, and they should only make new stuff that has never been released before. Or adults who never paid attention previously may suddenly get bitten by the bug and want to dive in at any point in their lives.

"Collect BOTH" :) Geez, could they maybe have another model or two this wave?

By in Australia,

Would like to see microfighter Tantive IV, (classic) A-Wing, Sandcrawler, Landspeeder, Jabba's Sailbarge, Slave I, Razorcrest, B-wing, Deathstar, but I guess a third Millennium Falcon will have to do!
