Oh, 11 Pirates sets! We really were spoiled back in 2009 and we didn’t even know it.

I hope the popularity of The Pirates of Barracuda Bay spurs Lego to reintroduce their classic line.

I think it's bound to happen at some point, although perhaps with a more mystical element to the theme since there will be a lot of nostalgia for the original three Pirates of the Caribbean movies soon and some of the newer designers will have been at about the right age to have those movies be a source of inspiration to them as kids.

That bridge is really cool! Oh where’d pirates go...

Has anyone tried to mod their Barracuda Bay into this configuration?

Ah, the Pirates of Barracuda Puddle! There were some pretty good sets in the Pirates theme. This...isn't one of them. It took them a while to figure out how to make a decent shipwreck.

The first three Pirates movies absolutely have a large following. They’ve aged quite well. I imagine an 18+ set, whether large or smaller, would sell fairly well, definitely in a year or two.

By in United States,

This is one I wanted as a kid. I remember seeing it in the lego catalog and obsessing over it. There's so many great pieces and details, like the tan rope bridge (exclusive to this set!), the dark blue boat (only in 3 sets), and the pirate flag (only in 2 sets). The crow's nest and the skeleton with the pirate hat are my personal favorites. If you want to expand 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, this set would fit right in.

If I start collecting Pirates, might have to actually get this one instead of just fawning over it.

By in United States,

I recently started working on a pitch for a new Pirates theme to submit to the new LEGO World Builder platform. One of my friends already made some concept art for it. We plan on making this theme stand out from other Pirates themes by also adding a few mystical elements, and a more well defined cast of characters.
If anyone here is interested in helping out with this project and potentially seeing the return of LEGO Pirates in some form, feel free to contact me.

I really hope the Pirate theme will return in 2021!

I had a choice between this one and the redcoats' fort, went with the fort. Might get this one at some point, but I'm liking hooking the fort up with the 2015 one to make a bigger base so don't regret my choice

The only one I didn't buy back then ... still a bit sad

By in United Kingdom,

Great set, just looks like lots of fun to play with and a simple build for younger kids to have no problems with building. It took me a while to spot the 6th mini-fig. Really miss the gold coins which ended in 2011 and the Scythe Blade sticking out of the tower.

By in Poland,

Already a lack of baseplates in 2009. Sad.

By in Poland,

This set looks as awful as it was for me back then!
But it still have some great pieces!

By in Estonia,

quick tip: If you are going to hide out, don't hoist a giant flag. There'll be boatloads of trouble.

By in United Kingdom,

It's a weird thing, but my childhood interest in Lego fell squarely *between* the two occurrences of the Pirates theme; I missed the end of classic!Pirates by a couple of years, and was on my way to slipping into the 'dark age' by the time this one came around in 2009. As a result, I never had any Pirates sets... I only ever had one (and a half, though I didn't realise at the time) Pirates minifigures, and that from trading with friends at school.

As such, I think the only nostalgia that Pirates really have for me is due to Lego Racers. While some of the sets are definitely neat, I just don't have that personal attachment to any of them, I guess.

This is one of the sets that got me back into LEGO as an adult, if not THE set. I loved the original pirates theme as a kid, and when I saw this siting on the store shelves (along with the fantasy castle theme), it re-captured my imagination. Combine it with some of the small island sets like 6254 Rocky Reef or 6241 Loot Island (or both!) and you have a fun little shipwreck island outpost.

@ambr:
To be fair, the sixth minifig is very skilled at staying motionless, so he tends to draw less attention.

By in Australia,

Cool set overall, but it sure hasn’t aged well.

@Alazon:
As an original MOC, it looks amazing. I can see hints of both SH and FB in its design, but it's missing several key elements of both sets, including one shared element (the crows nest). I don't think I'd say it succeeded in its aim. I love the cannons and the palm trees. The tattered sailcloth seems really cool, too, until you zoom in and realize just how egregiously the builder cheated (sooooooo many part intersections). I'm not sure there's any point to posting a guard on the jail cell anymore, though...

Arrr, It may not be the finest of all pirates set, not even of the 2009 sets, but this here set still holds a place in me heart. T'was a most excellent set then, glad I be of the mind back then to acquire it.

Honestly, not the greatest set, but I had fun with it, and as a collector, very glad I got it.

Not much Blacktron going on here, though. That flag has the right colours. About it, really.
