Review: 75007 Republic Attack Ship and Coruscant

This the second of three short and sweet reviews of the new Star Wars Planet Series 3 sets.
This one, 75007 Republic Attack Ship and Coruscant, like all Planet sets consists of a Planet, a spacecraft, a minifig and a display stand.
According to Wookiepedia...
Coruscant was, during most of galactic history, the most politically important world in the galaxy. Its hyperspace coordinates were (0,0,0) which effectively made it the centre of the galaxy.
The entire surface of Coruscant was covered by sprawling kilometers-high ecumenopolis (single worldwide city), and boasted a population of over a hundred billion to several trillion, depending on the era.
Anyway, on with the review...

The minifig
This is a new design of Clone Trooper for 2013 which BrickLink designates sw442 and claims is an episode 2 variant. However, it has to be said he's pretty boring. I think the main differences between it and earlier episode 2 Clone Troopers (e.g. this one) are the facial expression and a darker torso print.
The ship
The Republic Attack Ship looks great until you compare it with what I believe it's supposed to resemble. The page on Wookiepedia for the Acclamator I-class assault ship shows something with much wider wings, more like a Vulcan.
Nevertheless, it's a well-made 'swooshable' model.

Not much to say about it really...
Conclusion
This is another good addition to the Planets series, although the minifig is a bit boring, and also appears in 75000 Clone Troopers vs. Droidekas. The ship is well made and despite not looking quite like the prototype is still an excellent model.
Not an essential purchase given the minifig is not unique and the ship not iconic, but one that you'll be pleased with if you do buy it.

Easily the worst Planet set thus far. A plain Clone Trooper and a poor man's Star Destroyer. The only good thing about it is the Coruscant planet itself, which looks pretty cool.
Say what you will about the B-Wing, but at least it had a unique minifigure and an interesting build.
It's odd that you say what you do (it's boring, non-unique etc), because this one is one of my favourites! I just love that they've finally got around to doing movie-style EPII troopers. This set as a whole also reminds me a lot of the Republic Commando video game, which is set largely on a Republic Attack ship like that one, and features plenty of (rather stupid) clones (who almost always get themselves killed) like the one above.

I do really like the planet part, and might have to pick up an extra just for that. I do like the head better than the CW style head. Its certainly not my favorite, but (as far as I know) it is a new flesh expression. The actual vehicle is sorta boring, but so is what it is based off of.
I'm actually a fan of this set. 1 thing is that now that I know the magic of brasso I look at the planets as a piece in new color with lots of potential beyond just it's printed version (but i'm still collecting them all)... I also like the new clones, and have a couple of the bp ones and will welcome some extra help to their ranks =-) The model looks cute and im sure all together it's a decent parts pack. I must have picked up close to 10 planets now that they're on clearance already owning a full set of the original 6 and 2 death stars... I like them
The main difference is that these clones just have normal minifig eyes, instead of the big and scary "Clone Wars" style of eyes. It's a subtle thing, but a lot of people will prefer this design.
That pic on Wookieepedia is off, in my mind. Just watch the film again - this is a pretty decent copy of an Acclamator. My main beef with it is not the width of the wings (your comparison to a Vulcan is way off), but the angle. There's no reason to angle them like that. It looks silly and ruins the overall effect.
They added abit to much detailing to the top of the ship imo causing it to not look like the Acclamator and the wings are swept to far downwards, could have designed it abit better.
The model itself for this set is poor, but the planet (despite being a bit cartoonish) looks rather nice and the Minifigure is a reasonable addition, you can never have too many Clone Troopers. Perhaps an Episode II Clone Pilot would have been an improvement?
To me, it looks as though the helmet and printing are the biggest changes from the previous incarnation of the movie version of the Phase-I trooper. As a Star Wars fan, I instantly recognized the assault ship for what it was, and since we have had no previous version of the Acclamator, it's hard to find too much fault with the model in mini-scale (especially since the ship is, essentially, nothing more than an arrowhead with a tail!) I easily prefer this to the mini-Venator we got two years ago (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=30053-1)
It makes a lot of sense to include an Acclamator assault ship, standard clone trooper, and the planet Coruscant in a set because they're the focal point of the pivotal moment that marks the beginning of the Clone Wars as we see at the end of AoTC. Also, this year will usher in the 3-D treatment of said movie, making it an obvious choice for a set. Overall, I'd say this is a great addition to the Planet Series line.

Also, I think these sets are really designed as an impulse set to get newbies out of their "Dark Ages", and to give AFOLs something to show off on the desk at work, so yes, they are all going to focus on the most common ships and the most common figures... and that is why they might seem a bit boring to the fan who has everything, right? =)

I like the Acclamator and I wish Lego would make a playset version like they did for the Venator. Someone made a UCS version of the Acclamator and provided full instructions for it. You bet your asteroid I'm gonna build it at some point. :)
That said, this mini Acclamator is off-model. Not wide enough and the wings shouldn't be angled like that. Weird. I'll get one anyway. :)
Is the helmet the same mold as a clone wars helmet? It looks like the this print would barley fit on the face of the piece.
I like the figure, although plain, and the planet in this set is an excellent print. I agree that the Acclamator's wings are angled weirdly, although it's accurate enough for a first attempt I suppose. Not sure if I'll get this but it is on my list.
@Zrath - I actually made a poorly-designed playset version of the Acclamator a few years back. (brickshelf link under my profile.) I would like to see LEGO do a version as well, perhaps in the future if they continue making more Episode II like they've done with Episode I recently.

...it does actually resemble it very much; I just think the smaller scale makes it a bit harder to compare the wing size in relation to the "body." Perhaps it's because the wings are at an angle?
I don't care much about the figure, but the planet does look great, and, in my opinion, the model.
