That's maybe the most Internet response to anything ever. XD

A pre-polybag polybag set. Interesting design for the cockpit. It seems like he'd need to reach a bit for the controls.

It's amazing how poor the Blacktron 2 minifig design is compared to Blacktron 1. That big "B" and the white uniform makes them seem a whole lot less menacing.

Now THAT’S a probe... I mean, scout.

I think that was the point. I think LEGO thought that Blacktron I was 'too' evil looking.

By in United States,

I am not an overt fan of Space, Classic or otherwise, but I can easily appreciate the theme's broad appeal. In the case of this set, I will go out on a limb. It is one of the most simplistic, yet clearly fun, sets I have ever seen. Small, sleek, affordable, clear in purpose, and including play value for youngsters, or so it would seem. Two thumbs up!

@Zordboy :
Super "B" Blacktron were the cadet corps. If they couldn't figure out how to work the controls on something like this, they didn't deserve to graduate to the cool uniforms. Or live.

This was one of the first sets I was given as a young child. Super cool to see it on here :)

That seems reasonable.

I just looked at the instructions, though. This ship doesn't even have a control panel. That one-by-two white panel, there, is a grille tile.

First Clickits, then Racers, then Bionicle, and now this. Where will Huwbot take us next?

By in Turkey,

This is nice but I like the original Blacktron colors and the figures. Sadly it didn't live long, only in our hearts.

I'll take Castle for $1,000 Alex. (RIP)

Think this lil' guy is what yesterday's probe is keeping an eye out for?

Awww that's cute. The colours make me imagine that when it flies it makes an annoying buzzing sound like bees.

By in Netherlands,

A lot of nice parts in this set. I know kids love angular wings and rockets.

By in Germany,

this brings me back to my young days... probably have seen it gifted as birthday present. I love early 90s LEGO

Love these sets! It has everything: a minifig, movable parts, recognizable shapes and totally swooshable. Kids can fiddle with these for hours on end.

And since "its retail price was US$2", it was affordable for most of us.

Not sure what happened to the usual levers and what are the up arrows on the wings for? I'm sure many a kid has asked this question on Christmas day, why don't we ever get any of the large sets?

SPACE

That looks safe

As much as I prefer Blacktron I over this, I must admit that the Blacktron II small spaceships are fantastic swooshable designs that are lots of fun to play with. Maybe not in a galaxy-menacing kind of way, but rather in a "let's go for a joyride" kind of way.

Sheer volume of smaller sets mean they’re more likely to pop up. When there half a dozen little ones like this to every big spaceship then odds favour the small sets to be randomly selected

I think the smiley face negates any menacing uniform design.

This actually was a polybag set.

1694 was the boxed version.

Blacktron 2 always gets a bad rap due to comparisons/association with Blacktron 1. I agree that the Blacktron 1 minfig design is better as the Blacktron 2 logo isn't the greatest and nothing beats opaque black visors for coolness, but I honestly think most of the Blacktron 2 sets are pretty good and have a nice color scheme. If the faction had been named something else, they would probably be remembered more fondly. Also these were the last space minifigs to have the classic simple smiley faces!

@Zordboy:
And? As I said, if you couldn't figure out how to work the controls on this, you didn't deserve to graduate to the cool uniform. Or live. You know, there's probably a bunch of wires hidden behind that grille tile. Some of them might be hot. Gravity's a harsh mistress, and you don't have a lot of time to waste thinking about this. Get crackin'!

@TheWackyWookiee:
2x2x2 round brick. With the fins, the base is 4 studs in diameter.

@ambr:
Blacktron II had a weird thing for arrow tiles. They help weed out the gullible and easily distracted.
