Greetings fellow wizard comrades. 'Tis good day to be on high seas, no? Now everybody take deep breath or turn into fish boy, we dive!

I have the regular release of this set (4768-1), but had no clue there were bonus figures in a later re-release. The two Durmstrang figures in the set (Krum and Karakaroff) are decent enough to fit in with the current 2018-ongoing Harry Potter line, although I tend to use the newer Krum figures to represent that character with the original Krum becoming a generic Durumstrang student.

Fascinating that the boat hull here is a recolor of the same unitary boat hull piece from the 4 Juniors pirate ship, 7075

You're the first person I know who actually prefers the new Krum with a reused face with a dopey expression on one side to the OG. Anyway this set and Karkaroff are due for a remake. It would sell great because it's a big old sailing ship.
The Black Falcon shields appear on this ship. It's rare when Lego includes an easter egg to one of their own themes in a licensed set.

By in United States,

I had this set. It was a Target exclusive, the same year Target also had 7283 Ultimate Space Battle. Since I already had Anakin's Starfighter, I decided to go with the HP set instead. It's a great set. I had never purchased any of the old Pirates sets, so this was the closest I had to any sailing ship set. I thought it presented great and was very impressive. The 4 extra figures were nice, but added little overall play value as all of them were available iin other sets. Anyway, I had to sell it a few years back when money was tight, but I really enjoyed it while I had ot.

We never get any special edition minifigs with our sets anymore.

They were just extras from other sets

Would have been nicer with sails.

Honestly its not so much the face, but just the body printing is more detailed on the newer Krums; although I feel the face is decent enough to do the job. Although certainly you are correct the old face did capture the more brutish features he had in the film. ]]

Or rather, was there any set (outside of the US) that included bonus Minifigures at all?

And speaking of figures, what the heck happened to Ron's face?

If they feel a need to add ‘bonus minifigures’ then I’d say they stuffed it up the first time. Mind you wasn’t there a SW set with a named character that came out after the set had retired in most places?

Harry Potter is like Star Wars just in a smaller scope. But they can only release sets based on the 7 books since JKR doesn't seem to write more HP books. Maybe more in Universe who knows. I mean Fantastic Beasts was one of these. Anyway, these Movie based sets don't interest me much.

15 years later it would be time for an updated Durmstrang Ship with exklusive minifigures. SW is slowly getting lamer and HP better.

By in United Kingdom,

Surprised 566 pieces given that the hull and deck are made from just 4 very large pieces. The aftercastle must be more complicated than it looks. The extra minifigs were probably added to clear unsold stock as sales of Harry Potter sets are always far far greater when Harry is included.

@ambr I think the normal version of this set was the last not to include Harry until the Beauxbatons Carriage last year, actually.

Neat subtle theme crossover with castle... guess someone in the HP world is a descendant of the Black Falcons?

Just gotta hope the next Fantastic Beasts movie isn’t a mess like Crimes of Grindlewald and that’s JK Rowling doesn’t go too off the deep end on Twitter.

I need to get this, based solely on the fact that it is a sailing ship. And I definitely want to try MOCing with those hulls someday.

@xboxtravis7992:
Brickset doesn't seem to have any date ranges for either set, but I don't recall these being a later release. If it was, it may have been one of their Black Friday promos.

@bamaker:
They had 7283, too? Aw, man, I though that was a LEGO.com exclusive, and didn't have a way to place orders with them at the time. If I'd known I could just go buy a copy in person...

@AustinPowers:
Ron (and Hermione) were from the Merfolk set, so their heads had an alternate expression with their eyes closed. That and the skintone are a great combo if you want to include a corpse in your layout.

@Kynareth:
No, but there was a Disney Wars set that did.

@Nordbart:
They actually don't have a licensing agreement with Rowling. If they did, then The Cursed Child and any short stories she's written would be fair game. Their contract is with WB, so currently they're limited to the eight HP and two FB movies. Plus preparing for FB3, which I'm sure they're already doing.

@ambr:
They had to print new boxes and instructions, and add four minifigs to the interior packaging. It would have been more cost effective to just clearance them if that's what was going on.
