Maybe sections of this are good, I wouldn't know since I don't have it, but nothing will look better than 4483

The hole on the head of this AT-AT remains bizarre.

One of the toes on the front left foot looks backwards

Yep, it never fails to amaze me. Like when they didn’t edit out the photo placement dishes from beneath minifigures in 2017.

Why is there an obvious gap in the head? Why is the toe on wrong? Why are Luke and the Rebel Trooper in action poses but no one else?

This is an awful product image.

By in United States,

I missed this one. Not bad. Having 4483 I’m all good on the AT-AT front.

I miss Clickits.

Zounds, this looks bad. I mean, if it was the first LEGO AT-AT you ever saw, you'd probably let the Star Wars fan within take charge and fall head over heels for it. But from a LEGO fan's viewpoint, this is still notably a drop or two in quality from the design and appearance of the first AT-AT, the legendary 4483.

Not yet mentioned is the heinous absence of printing on the leg joints and also the lack of small, 2x2 dishes (trash can lids) as detailing on the ankle joints. Overall, very sparse and bare-looking. Hold on to those 4483 beauties, everybody, and take good care of them!

By in Puerto Rico,

AT-AT has joined the X-Wing, MF, Tie Fighter, Snowspeeder and Luke Landspeeder in the competition of most SW models made of one vehicle.

Whoever took this product photo was either a genius or beyond not caring.

Yep my brickset friends, not always a more "recent" model means evolution/upgrade.

This set is an excellent example...

Its not supposed to be there, that segment is on droid arms and supposed to go all the way forwards where some clips hold it in place. The head should be a properly sealed cockpit, I have no idea why they did it this way for the photo

By in Turkey,

I don't know about the functionality but this set is certainly a downgrade on the looks department. Nice figure collection though.

Then they may have opened it on purpose, like the side opening.

By in Netherlands,

I still really want an ATAT :(

As much as I love 4483 you just have to look at it sideways and a bit falls off. It’s just too delicate for all but shelf dressing.

Good choice just before the latest version is released https://brickset.com/sets/75288-1/AT-AT , which seems from the photos to be taller with 1200 pieces rather than the 800 odd for 8129, 1000 odd for 4483. Surprised no mention so far of the 10178 motorised version, which was an ambitious challenge by Lego, as although it had the motion it could be unstable at times and fall over (maybe that was the idea).

By in Germany,

While it is not the one I have, I still like the motorized walking one best. A friend of mine has it and that walking function just looks so cool in action. Plus it is one of the few with printed dish pieces on the legs.

Oh, is that what those were? I always wondered if those sets actually just included a few random dish pieces as minifigure stands, or if that was a mistake.

I don't think I've ever seen this set before. 2010 was the beginning of my "dark age", which had been slowly coming on for a couple of years by that point, so I missed a lot that year (except for Lego Toy Story!) and for several years after. But I do remember seeing the earlier AT-AT versions in the catalogues, and this one doesn't... quite have the same impact, does it?

By in Canada,

I missed out on the venerable 4483 (darn you dark ages!), so I nabbed this one the second it was released. I'm a huge AT-AT fan, the original Kenner toy was my favorite toy growing up (still have it too!). This AT-AT...solid "meh". It's definitely an AT-AT, but not nearly as beefy as 4483, and function-wise it's only ok. The head falls off whenever you try to move it, and the trash can joint covers pop off all the time. I'm eyeballing the new one and might pick it up if it looks like enough of an improvement.

Trust me, this ain’t much better! Lost count of the number of times my son has requested I re-attach the whole head!
Looks better in the flesh that the images suggest though.

I'm going to throw out a hypothesis here and see if anyone agrees:

"The clamor and excitement for ever-more unique and detailed minifigures allows/forces Lego to execute more downsizing and juniorizing of the vehicle and ship models with each passing year."

These minifigures are clearly more detailed and unique then in previous years' AT-AT and Star Wars releases. But the main model detail suffers as a result (a jungle vine/whip used as Luke's cable gun???).

Discuss...

By in Germany,

Ah, the epitome of Lego set photography is here. Honorable mention the dishes holding minifigs (that are not in the set), close 2nd place is displaying 1 minifig twice (Cantina, Battle of Hoth) for no apparent reason.

On a personal side note: my 4483 was not replaced by this, but then by 75054, which I like a lot better. Still, 4483 holds a special place in my heart.

My brother and I received this as a Christmas gift many years ago. It is still intact.

By in Netherlands,

I own this one!!!!

It's no 4483, but as far as AT-ATs go I still am proud to own it. The shape of it is mostly accurate and the legs don't look as spindly and the head doesn't look as oversized as on the later versions from 2014 and 2020. I like that the interior is actually quite roomy on the back part too, unlike 75054 that is filled with technic. The original is still the best looking, but considering it goes for twice as much as this one, I think this one is fine too for if you want to own an AT-AT.

In addition, I like the extremely generous amount of minifigs. And the inclusion of the rebel turret allows for great play scenarios, especially with 8084 Hoth Battle Pack to boost the imperial forces.

Interestingly, the 8084 Hoth Battle pack seems to have the same Imperial figs as this set, but the general has his head switched... with the rebel trooper from this same set! Also, with the speeder bike from 8084 you also have an AT-AT & Speeder combo like the 4483 AT-AT and the new 2020 version. Although this set does not hold the speeder unfortunately (altough with the benefit of more stability, most likely).

All in all, as someone with a limited budget I am very grateful to own this one. Is it the best? No. But it's still a worthy AT-AT!

By in Australia,

Still brilliant, but I’d personally say the new one is the best!
