So there's a sink in the van? Is this firefighter going to try putting out fires with tapwater?
I can’t get in. I CAN’T GET IN!
These doorless/cabless vehicles are quite quaint nowadays.
So was that ladder just one solid piece? Gotta say I haven’t seen that before...
@Royweeezy Nope, it could slide like the modern ones.
@chrisaw
Well in the past few years we've had many 10-stud wide cars without any doors that only seat a single minifigure.
That’s a weird set name.
Love those 1x4 decorated 1x4 headlight bricks.
Wow, we've gone old-school.
I have to say, as a kid? One of my favourite things was when Lego used transparent bricks (even those lovely round ones) in city cars and trucks and vehicles. That was the best thing ever, for ten-year-old me.
Still better than an 8 wide.
I got most of this set cheap from a thrift store some months back. It's nearly complete now, just need a couple more pieces...a fun little set that I was glad to restore and add to the collection.
I had the European version, it came out in 1978, It was my very last set of "regular" Lego. After that i bought some Technic until 1980.
Wow, it even has Jeff's autograph...
I always loved that firemen logo. And there’s a lot of useful pieces in it too
Ah, the one that got away. I got it, because it had a yellow tap, and grey doors. But my mom thought enough fire sets (I think) and had me return it and trade it for road plates.
Still, not all bad. Sometime later I got https://brickset.com/sets/6690-1/Snorkel-Pumper, and that was one of my favourite sets. So much functionality!
So, is it Groundhog Day? I’m pretty sure something like this was yesterday’s Random Set
Edit: Yep. Sure was.

The ladder was two parts, one on top of the other which slide out to double the length shown on the fire engine. This was one of the best parts of this small set as usually only available on the full fire station sets.

Better than not seating them at all, though!

Genius! Why'd we never think of that? After all, you can never run out of tap water...
With the short nose, this resembles a Mercedes T1N 'Bremen Transporter,' new in 1977. It must have been easier for TLG to recreate the boxy styling of the 70s than the vehicles of today!
My first set all those years ago, I thank 556 for bringing me to the world of LEGO.

CHROME decorated, mind you! And they still hold well after 40 years, a lot of play and some laundry.
Must be nasty stuff if TLG can no longer use it. Otherwise they should use it again.
BTW, this set is equal to set 672 (which seems like the European version since I own that one). Jeff may be from the other side of the Atlantic.
556 was the US version of this set. Mine happened to appear in my Easter basket so many years ago. Yes, the cool looking sink piece was a must have item and as for the ladder, well it was the grey version of the popular yellow one that had appeared in previous fire themed sets. Although the fire guy could not ride in the cab, he could at least stand on the ramp on the back just like so many fire fighters did at one time.
Speaking of that ladder, I've had that in my collection of childhood Lego and never been able to figure out what set it came from. Having seen this set now, I think this was it! I have some of the other uncommon parts from this lying around too.
